Hey guys! As some of you know from my last post, we may be a two bird household soon! I've been visiting the baby gcc and she's just about done weaning! Well, she's got tons and tons of energy and loves climbing and swinging so I've been trying to find a table top birdie playground that's worth it. AnYone have one that they are happy with? I would preferably like to put my sun indy and the baby gcc on it together so I want it to be larger but also portable. Thanks for any feedback!

I really like the java tree table tops. All the other table tops are stuff my dad could make me from scrap wood and not worth it IMHO.

Acrobird makes some good ones..mostly wooden, with different designs and levels, feed cups, and portable. And they're very reasonable.

I made one and the other is one from a bird shop they made. I have seen good ones at Petco for $20 if you want something that is easy to have. But if you want something that is good and sturdy, Java stands are great! But can be up to $70! Still, very worth it! :)

I bought the cheapo from petco. $20 bucks. Returned it two days later after I got home, put it together and realized it would topple if a FLEA played on it.

Really, PVC is one of the easiest materials in the world to work with, and there are a ton of things you can do with it.

And it's not expensive, or time consuming.

With a little bird, you could do something like my coffee table, only end table sized... One or two grapewood or manzanita base perches screwed into the thing, with a PVC canopy to hang toys, and put the treat cups on.

You could make something like that in less than two hours, and it would be better than anything store-bought...

For many years, my "portable" playstand was a table top version of this thing:

Somewhere I have a picture of 8 birds on the portable playstand, complete with the side cargo nets. (Everything from large macaw(s) (plural!) to conures.)

For the small bird table top version of this, you just scale down the dimensions based on your table size. Use the same basic shape. For a small bird you would use 1/2 inch diameter pipe.

Not at all hard to make!

Are you gonna have them flighted or clipped? Mine are flighted, and a play stand is a pretty useless thing for them because they are extremely active and fly all over the place. We ended up having to hang the ropes and branches with lots of toys and some ladders across the whole dining room. :D

I could not find a table top one that either me or my gcc liked all the ones for his size were marketed toward cockatiels, and didnt seem to have enough to hold the interest of my curious gcc. So I went with a stand alone gym and we both love it.
