Having adopted my first green cheek conure one month ago, I'm pretty new to them. He's a standard gcc, no mutation. I have seen other standard gcc with red bellies. He is about 1 year old now and only has a tiny patch of red on his belly. Do some gcc's just have more red than others? Or will his color brighten up as he gets older?

My GCC is 1 year old too and has more red than I've seen on some GCC's. I know they're diet determines how healthy and bright they're feathers are, but not sure about the color pattern. Molting will also change the coloring a bit, not sure how much or how so with GCC specifically. Someone else can probably help with the color change during molting.

I do think a lot of it is just the specific bird, like any other animal with patterned fur/feathers, each one is going to be different.

I breed gccs and that is how I tell the babies apart, they all have different amounts of red. It's the same as them having different personalities, they all have different amounts of colors.

Every bird is different just like we r. People think they all look alike but they r different in their own way. I can tell all my babies apart because they r all different, some have more yellow some more red and so on.

Yep, some have more red than others. On another forum I belong to, there was actually a thread where people were all posting their GCC bellies to see all the varrying reds. :)
