Just wanted to pop in and introduce myself. I am Christopher or as most just call me, Brad. I am a dog trainer and a writer. I am thirty-six years old, I have some previous experiences with birds as a child and some into my teens when we had smaller birds in the house. I've always wanted another bird but life never really allowed that to happen until now. I have settled down, married and have kids. I was not searching for a bird but one found me. A client of mine asked if I would like her young, one and a half year old quaker. My wife who works with her on occasion was the one to set it up, she knew that I always secretly wanted another bird but never went looking for one. Well, long story short, I picked up the bird that day. Today is my sixth day of ownership, we've renamed the bird Pippen (from LOTR). I do not typically rename my rehomed pets, but we made an exception for him since he didn't too keen on his previous name, haha. He is a timid bird, I have been spending time next to his crate reading, talking and just hanging out, allowing him time and space to get closer. As of now, he is pretty comfortable with my face but still scared of my hands. He knows some words, "peekaboo" which he likes to play with me, yesterday he cackled at my wife and today he was muttering some other things that I couldn't quite catch. Every time I told him to say it louder, he would repeat it but quieter and quieter until he was barely audible, haha. Anyways, I'm hoping he grows comfortable with me soon as I want to begin the training process and get him comfortable with being around the house and out of his crate so he can hang out with me in the mornings when I write. His previous owner never tamed nor handled him at all, so I hope it's not too difficult to get him to come around. Thanks for reading! Also, I'm so glad to have found a forum. I really miss forums, not too fond of FB groups.
