So Gus, although technically not my bird, is still one of my feathered masters. He is my wife's baby, but since she works and I stay home with the birds and homeschool our daughter, I get ALL of the joys of parronthood. Feeding the finicky, cleaning the palaces, repairing and replacing boring and worn out toys. You know the drill. All to be completely ignored by the red-butt when someone better gets home from work. Sigh. And for all that I still love the grouch.

I'm just kidding really. Gus is actually an incredibly sweet bird. We've had him since the middle of August and he hatched July 15, 2017. Since he was the only big baby we had, and we had to put a grate over the wood chips because he was a naughty baby, we gave him a piece of folded up fleece to snuggle with in his tote like he would have with the other chicks in his clutch. He was absolutely in love with his blankie! Even when me moved into his big boy cage, he had it for a while, and would carry it around in his beak like a little kid.

Since we had him from such a young age, we worked with harness training from the start as well. It definitely took a little bit for him to grow into his harness, but it paid off in a lot less bloodshed than there could have been!

There will be more to come soon, as I get more of Gus's pictures rotated, as this will be his thread. I'm done typing for now anyway, I can't hold him and type at the same time and he just wandered over.

That is pretty much Gus's take on everything. Why are you bothering His Highness with your trivial human issues?

beautiful baby pictures!

Well heres another thread I will have to follow. Gus is so cute as a baby in his harness. Good thiinking to introduce it when he was so young. I'll bet he loves going outside.

He likes going outside sometimes. He likes to be outside in the backyard when we are all sitting around, and occasionally he likes to venture into the front yard with me. We are slowly working on venturing further out than that. Even though he is still young, he is a typical grey in that everything has to be thoroughly studied and analyzed before it is accepted as not a bird eating monster.

Baby greys are the best! Thank you! Go Gus!

Gus is soooo handsome! I just got my first grey a couple months ago. She hatched November 2017. Here is my Pyper. I’m head over heels in love with this girl.

Gus didn't really need his ego inflated anymore than it already was guys. Thanks a lot. Lol! He really is a good looking little boy with his funny toes.

Not really sure why, other than some weird genetic quirk, but Gus has caramel colored toe nails instead of the typical black. His feet are lighter colored and his tongue is almost pied pink and black as well, otherwise he looks like a typical grey. Just a weird bird, what can I say?

Of course, maybe I shouldn't talk about Gus too much, since he likes to make shanks in his spare time. I take back what I said about him being a sweet bird.

Just like Bo, Gus got a present for his first Chrismas too. Since he was a bit older though, he was able to have fun opening his own present. I think he liked ripping open the wrapping paper more than he liked his present to be honest.

I do know what his absolute favorite thing in the world is, what he would give up anything for. Clementines. I honestly think that bird would give up both of his wings for a 3lb bag of those little oranges. He never gets a whole orange, but pretty much anytime someone in the house has one, they pay their "orange tax" to Gus. If he knows someone has one, he will hunt them down. As a result, he often has sticky feets, so he gets lots of foot baths in the sink. Which is adorable of course. How can you not find that face adorable?

The grey cuteness has me swooning! Gus is adorable. Making shanks must be a grey thing bc mine is also guilty of the same. I imagine something genetic with the feet and toes. He’s one of a kind!

At least I'm not the only one that has a shank making bird to watch out for. Maybe it's just extra creepy when you pair it with their quiet, calculating nature.

I don't know if he just woke up on the wrong side of the perch this morning, or if I am just completely missing something, but Gus and I are just not seeing eye to eye today.

First, he got off his cage, and usually if he does it while I'm working on school work with my daughter, he'll step up just fine for me to put him back on his cage. Today though, as soon as he stepped up, he bit the crap out of me. So into his cage he went instead of just back on top of it.

Then, later things seemed fine, so I got him and brought him over to the computer with me. He climbed up on my shoulder like any other time. He sat there for only a moment then started mumbling and went after my face! He didn't get a bite in, but it wasn't for lack of trying.

I just don't know what has his tail feathers in a bunch.
