Hello
I havent been on this site in many years i did have pedro for 7 years but he passed away 3 years ago. so i waited 3 years until i felt ready to have another ringneck. So i seen a add for someone in Nottingham who is moving back to his home country and wanted her to go to a good home so i spent 1 month speaking to him watching videos and so on. Then i drove from newcastle to his place (3 hour drive) i met him and rio in his house she was brillaint she is 3 years old. so the drive back home she was talking away to me sitting near me in her travel cage not scared at all..
When i got her home i said to my wife and kids we will leave her in her cage for a week so she gets used to us. as i made that mistake with pedro he was nice but angry he would land on me and bite me but still flew to me and so on.
So the next morning i went to change her water and food as she was still in the travel cage and i had the big cage ready near. she flew out straight away and i went omg nooo.. But to my suprise she started to clean herself and said "what ya doing" kiss kiss... so i thought ok take it slow. but no she didnt she flew straight onto my shoulder and started to clean my beard lol....
for 2 weeks since then she is not scared of me my wife daughter son. even the cat they sit and watch out the window together its so cute.
so my problem is shes still the same but i now cant get her back in her cage when i want to. for the first 2 weeks i could say step up going home she would stay step off and take the treat. i could let her out in the morning before the school run and on my lunch break ( i work from home) and put her back nice and easy no trust building at all..
but maybe one week ago she just went nope im not going back into the cage. so now she will still fly to me clean my beard look at my phone take treats sit next to me on the table talking away all perfect. but if i ask her to step up she does but the second i move (putting her back) she flys off......... so i then go to her she steps up does a kiss kiss all fine so not scared. but then i move towards the cage she flys of..
now this doesnt happen at night time when i get her out at 6pm she plays flys to me all the same stuff then she puts her self to bed at 745 lol so funny its like clock work..
so i want to be able to get her out during the day but know when its time to go back and not fly around like i said shes not scared flying away shes basically acting like my 7 year old son when i say its time to leave the park... she is such a perfect bird i cant belive how tame she is i have even already got her to take a stroke. so i say rio stroke stroke and she puts her head down and lets me stroke her head you can cuddle her as well my won wraps his arms around her and she goes ooooo lol
its just this letting her out that has changed so i know its cause shes learnt im the one who ends the fun
i do not want to have to a) keep her in the cage all day until 6pm and b) walk back and forward till she is tired.
ive tried the millet fruit veg (inside the cage near the end) not giving her food or water outside the cage lol making the cage fun. but nope doesnt work. my son can walk up to her during the day pick her up walk towards the cage put her back down same with my daughter but if i do that during the day she just flys off.. if im away from the cage she sits on me now stop and talks away and i can stroker her feet touch her beak shes just such a nice friendly bird.
but any tips would be great as no matter what treats i put in she now knows what im trying to do lol
