Hey guys i got a B&G 2 days ago.age, Well its really hard to get him out of his cage. he gets nippy, and runs all over the cage trying to avoid you. Once you get him out he is super nice though. Id like to hear what you guys have to say on how to stop this problem? Also its hard not to give him a reaction when he goes to bite you, or when he actually does lol.

He may just be settling in and getting to know you.
Two days is not long in the life of a macaw.
I know nil about big birds like that, but I am sure once you get past all the lectures about to get about being a new bird owner, you will get some helpful info from the folks here.

Well, i was talking to my brother, and we both agree that since its a new environment he only feels safe in his cage so he doesnt wanna leave. Ive been using the towel method to get him out. Im like "ok im getting the towel" then he comes right out. I hope this method isnt stressing him!
ALSO FORGOT TO MENTION HES MOLTING.
Thanks again. forgot to mention, I owned 2 Budgies for 10 years (still alive) and a quaker for 5 years (still alive but had to give to uncle cause when i moved to texas i couldnt bring him)

DO NOT LET HIM USE HIS BEAK TO GET HIS WAY! If you allow your BG to know that he can get his way by using his beak you are going to have a lot of training/behavior issues (not to mention DOCTOR bills, and I am not talking about the Vet). Remember, you are in charge, a "STEP UP" command is that, a COMMAND THAT MUST BE FOLLOWED!
I can't stress this enough with MACAWS (especially multi-homed macs) you must let them know that YOU are in charge. Set ground rules for acceptable behavior and non-acceptable behavior. THE MOST EFFECTIVE FORM OF PUNISHMENT for a MAC is to IGNORE THEM. These birds are HIGHLY social and thrive on human interaction. If he steps out of line - BOOM ON THE FLOOR and TURN YOUR BACK - Let him know who is in charge and you will have a great relationship with your new friend.
