I have a huge herb garden for my iguana and beardies and in the process also have a HUGE problem with slugs! I can not use any chemicals because all of them including my IRN eats from the garden every day and I have tried EVERY organic method that there is with no success.
So a couple of weeks back I was outside, again, with my scissors cutting up slugs, listing to Sterretjie singing from the stoep. I thought to myself how nice it would have been if I could find a parrot that actually eats this juky things, and that is when it striked me - Silkies!
So I bought Harry and Sally.
Here is a photo of their first time ever on ground - they both dove in and had a ground bath! They destroyed my newly herb shoots but what the heck - they LOVED it and my heart felt very warm. Besides, herbs can grow again.
They are also not shy and if the door is open then they come inside and actually go and sit on the carpet as if they are watching tv! Can you believe, I never would have expected that! Here is a photo but this was taken after I chased them out.
A better close up of their cuteness. Sitting outside but still in front of the door.
Clearly these two do not think much of my quarantine rules!
My slug problem is getting better, thank you Harry and Sally.
