My little brother has low functioning autism and I have been working with him for many years and next year I will be paid to work at home and be his assistant(which is awesome) and I have just realized that he and birds share a lot of the same qualities and quirks they both repeat simple words to ask for things they want and repeat things they probably shouldn't haha. If my brother gets upset he will pinch you to get his point across and is a very picky eater. He loves to destroy things like stickers and paper. Knowing that I have been caring for him for so long gives me a lot more confidence to get a larger bird. Has anybody made the connection between children with mental disabilities and birds and That's also a great example for people who are wondering how much of a commitment sharing your life with a bird is. Of course there is a lot of differences but both my mom and aunt who were both special Ed teachers agreed.

I have one of her books. It's surprising how much you may learn about animals just reading it! Although that particular book (Animals in Translation) also had some gory parts to it. It's thanks to Temple that our cows, pigs and other animals meant for slaughter are treated better, and some companies may refuse to buy animals from farms that don't treat their animals to the degree in which Temple declares they should be cared for.
