Lilo, a baby female Eclectus.
As per my last post , which was in march , Lilo is still biting . Hard enough to draw blood and create scabs weeks later.
I have been bitten hundreds of times and am really losing my drive to try and train her . She just seems to be a really angry bird :/
One time she was sitting on my shoulder , and usually when she's there she's happy and doesn't try to bite me (although i don't exactly reach up to pet her) but she doesn't bite my face or anything she just plays gently with my hair , but one time she reached through the hair and bit me SO hard on the back of my neck i was reduced to tears for a good hour (first from pain , then continued just from being upset that she hasn't gotten any better.)

Unfortunately , I am considering selling her, (i would only consider selling her to an experienced parrot owner for fear of the new family feeling the same way and just selling her again and again.) I clearly don't have the experience/motivation to try and make her hand tame . She has not progressed at all except for wanting to climb onto my shoulder from her cage. I am very upset about this :(

here's a great article about biting,

it is very helpful and detailed. If however, you do decide to give her away, i think you should give her to a preserve or rescue, that way they can be sure she goes to a good home, and can work on her biting issues before she goes. I'm going through a similar thing with my parrot, so i know its hard, but you are doing your best for you and your bird and that's whats important.

I had a similar problem with my senegal. He was calm and I could hold him only if I was the only person at home. He hated my husband and my 4 sons. He would freak out if they even entered the room he was in. He would bite the blood out of me any time men were around. My female Ekkie on the other hand loves everyone in the house. We finally rehomed the senegal to an all female household of longtime parrot lovers. He is quite happy and content, but he still likes to bite on occasion if a man appears.

Is it just you and Lilo? I know my birdy hates kids and hates me when kids are around. Kinda sucks because one lives here haha. So she chooses when she wants to come out. I have a recent thread about Scarlets sudden aggression and it was due to too many toys (too much change) at once and the color of cloths I wear seems to affect how she acts as well. I dont know if you have thought of that yet, but I was getting frustrated after only 3 days of that, I cant imagine months!!! Your girl is still young and I dont have any experience with young Ekkies as mine is 18 years old, but she only likes to come out at certain times. Otherwise she can bite pretty good. Does she only draw blood (mostly) when she is in her cage or when she out (or both?)?

Sorry you are having such a rough time with her.

thanks for all the comments :) I was bracing myself for 'you shouldnt have taken the responsibility of an eclectus if this is how you react' type feedback (which very well may be the case) . I live at my mums with my two brothers. I have the most interaction with Lilo. She's pretty consistent with her aggression so I havent imagined it could be my clothes or toys. The first few days i had her she didnt bite at all then it just started, and hasnt changed for the 7 months ive had her haha. It's weird because she seems to be fond of me, she'll follow me up the hallway and stop when she gets near my legs and she'll climb onto my bed and ontop of me when im in it, but I literally cant even begin to teach her to 'step up' as if i put my hand anywhere near her chest/feet she will strike at it . the most i can do is stroke her beak a little.

I think some female eckies are just not suitable as pets and are better as breeders. I was originally getting a female but our breeder decided against selling her as she was very nippy and only got worse as she got older so we waited until she had another lot of babies to chose from.

Oh no, that doesn't sound very good!!! :( Sorry to hear that!
Maybe you could see if there are any people in the area who could help you train the biting out of her? :(

Could she be hormonal? I'm not familiar with the Ekkies, but Amazons can sometimes nip/bite their owners during breeding season which can last a few months.

Just curious, how do you react when she bites you?
