Hi all!

Just adopted this 2 month old baby from a rescue center. Her wings had been plucked (instead of clipped) by her previous owners. They plucked most of her primary flight feathers (and left the outermost primaries), so her flight is all over the place. Hopefully they grow again soon.

She seems to be adjusting well so far - eating, drinking, and very curious. She steps up and stays on my shoulder all day, and always joins us at the dining table to try and eat whatever we're eating (or just stand on the food, for some reason). She's so sweet, but SO clumsy 🥹.

We still haven't named her, so any ideas (and/or advice!) would be most appreciated!!

She's gorgeous and sounds amazing! I want her! Those previous owners should have their toenails pulled out for what they did to her. I'm so happy you rescued her. I don't know what kind of names appeal to you so it's hard to make suggestions.

Do you have other cockatiels or other birds? Is she going to have cagemates?

How about Matilda, Tilly for short?

Oh that poor baby! What a terrible way for her to start out, with someone plucking her feathers out!! I'm glad she's in a MUCH better place with you now though. How about "Precious" for a name, because she is 💖

They should grow back pretty quickly since they were plucked not cut. Plucking stimulates the follicle to replace the lost feather. Cutting the feathers doesn't and you would have to wait until the feathers were ready to molt which could take more than 6 months especially since she's so young and the feathers were so new.

Your bird looks so adorable, cute and alert. Good luck to you both.

Tilly is top on our list so far!
We have an older cockatiel (Coral, Coco for short) and we've been slowly introducing them, but he's a tad older than her so we're keeping them in separate cages for now (although they can see each other). We let them out of their cages at the same time during the day, but she's still very clumsy on her feet and can't run (or fly) away, so we keep an eye out in case the male tries to get aggressive.

I know! She really is 💖

This is helpful and reassuring to know, I had no idea!

Thank you!!

She looks like a Tilly/Tillie! Her poor wings, tho. Poor fid! Glad you have her!

Another way to keep Tilly but with a twist. Noctilucent. It's the thin cloud that reflects grey, yellows at dawn and dusk. I thought about it as a possibility for my CAG, Nameliss. But she named herself.

Congratulations she is adorable!!! 🥰 I’m so glad she’s on to a better life.

I like Tilly!
