hawk crashed on window

You are right. I don't open the window when my parrots are around. The hawk may break through the screen but there is still glass window...

Agreed. When the birds are out, the windows will be closed. I'm also not going to put them in front of that big picture window in my kitchen. That's the one the other bird broke through and birds crash into it on a pretty regular basis. The ones in this room are kind of blocked by the front porch and a Cherry tree. But, sometimes little birds land on them and look at my parrots. My recently passed BC conure seemed to sort of be friends with some of them. I noticed it was the same 2 or 3 that would keep coming to "visit" with her.
it just shows how intellegent they are, visiting other birds, that must have been adorable to watch:p, but and poor birdies crashing into the window, i heard you can place post-it notes or something similar so birds know they cant fly through it. i once saw a show about a hawk that swooped in on a cockatoo during a bird show, but everyone was ok. also at my uncles house in Connecticut, ospreys pick up big striped bass, so he told us to watch out to be sure they didnt swoop down on my dog (to be honest she eats so much i dont think he could get a grip on the little porker :p).
Flags outside the window help too... anything that breaks up the reflection so birds don't think they're flying into an open space or trees. A LOT more birds die or injure themselves flying into windows than people would guess, especially during spring and fall migration =(
This summer my Smudgie budgie was trying to woo a wild sparrow that would perch on the cable outside my window, soaking up his attention. Too cute.

It is a huge window. It was originally 3 windows all next to each other, but it looked better and was cheaper to buy one large picture window to replace them. I know people put owl stickers on them to prevent birds from flying into it, but that would scare my birds, too. Thankfully most of them don't die, or at least not right away that I know about, when they hit it. That's the only window they seem to fly into though. The others they will land on and just look inside.

For 4 years I had a female Cardinal that was in love with her reflection in them. And all day would go from window to window pecking. I thought I was the only one who knew about it until neighbors made a comment. They could actually hear and see her all the way from their house! Then this spring that started all over again with a male Baltimore Oriole. Thankfully he gave up after a few weeks or found a real mate.

I'll try to come up with something I can put on or in front of the window to discourage them. There are hanging plants there, too.

I've had hummingbirds and sparrows hit my windows before, never a hawk! Thankfully, the window didn't break, they can be such big birds!

Amigo was outside this morning, going off, so I went to see what was up. There was a red-tail hawk circling around down the hill. My husband came out and we agreed that, "Yeah, they live there". We see them often in the area and thankfully, they've never bothered Amigo, although, he will sound off and let them know he's watching them.

This pair of hawks, nest just down the hill from us (about 1/4 mile away), every spring. I believe, that must be their territory and as long as Amigo stays in his own territory, he doesn't seem to draw much attention.

Wow.. beautiful hawk! Even though he tried to eat your bird ;] I love the picture of Joe sitting there looking so unphased... "Hawks? Yeah whatever."

Good thing for that window!
