Head scratches

Mango still doesn't like head scratches and only tolerates me petting his back. He is more than happy to give me kisses on my lips and loves being out with me.

I just find it a little odd that he doesn't like to be scratched. Never met a bird that didn't.

Be careful petting his back though- it's a sexual move and it might result in unwanted advances from him later on...

Oh yes, back is a "no touch" zone, more so if it's a girl.
He might change his mind later about his head scratches after he is done molting and bunch of new feathers are growing...he can't reach his head, so he will let you do it.....

Everybody's different. One of my (adopted) cats is head shy, which is quite unusual in a cat, most like getting patted/stroked. I find it harder for me to adapt and not keep doing it. It was quite an adjustment not trying to pat my rabbits under the chin like I do with my dogs and cats. He might change his mind/adapt, but if it's "not his thing" you'll have to get used to it. My girl will now let me pat her head, but it's still not "her thing" and her first reaction is to avoid your hand, even after 16 years she still has that reaction.
