I made an indebth post about 10 minutes ago, and have no clue where it went. :-) I've never posted on a forum before.:grey: So, I'll make this short and see where it goes. .....
Being a neurotic about bird safety, I thought I knew just about everything there is to know about unsafe products for birds. Well, I learned I do NOT! For those of you that don't know, %100 cotton shoe laces are NOT SAFE FOR BIRDS TO CHEW ON.
I made the mistake of using them to string odds and ends of toys for my baby to play with. ... she ingested a few of the strings and now has a clogged gizzard at the duodenum area. After spending 5 days in the Hospital, she came home. Parts are starting to move out. Twenty five more days until her next barrium X-Ray, if she is still clogged, surgery will have to be done. AVIAN SPECIALIST WARNING: PAY NO ATTENTIO TO THE LABELS. THERE IS STILL A TINY BIT OF POLYESTER IN THE FABRIC OF THE ALLEGED %100 COTTON LACES!!! Please pay attention to this warning. My little girl is paying a huge price for my ignorance.

Don't beat yourself up over this. We all try our best to safeguard our birds' worlds as best as possible. Today, with so many imports from less regulated countries, there is always a slight danger that things are not exactly what they are marked. Both China & India are the worst culprits. You did what you thought was right, and are not really to blame here. Your bird is in all our thoughts & prayers. Thanks for the warning!

It's sad but mistakes happen, just know your a good parront for bringing your bird to the vet :)

Do you know of Sisal? Unlike cotton, sisal can pass through the body when ingested.

Welcome to the forum and thanks for the warning. I had been told that they were safe as well. By the way I am glad to know that I am not the only one to have a post that I just worked hard on disappear into the black hole of internet space never to be seen again. I hope your bird will be alright:)

Welcome to the forum, Joann. :)

I'm terribly sorry to hear about your baby. :( I sincerely hope and pray that she completely recovers from this ordeal.

And thank you for the warning. IMO NO toy is ever 100% safe for all birds.

Welcome to the forum and thanks for the heads up about the dangers of shoe laces. I hope your bird has a fast recovery, peace.
