Have a male (green) and female (palid green) Quaker. Bought a Senegal, Rudy, a week ago yesterday from a very reputable parrot shop. Rudy is 3 months old and was caged with his brother at the store.

Thought I'd share an experience since a search a few days ago brought me to this website.

We were visiting the parrot shop where we bought our Quakers, Basil and Pasta, when the owner approached us with a Senegal. He was very active and affectionate ,,, and we even kinda named him on the spot - Meatball. While we were discussing, a call came in from someone who wanted to buy him. We were asked if we wanted him ,,, and not being a compulsive buyer, I said no. The next day, we bought Meatball's brother -- though we were told that he wasn't the extrovert Meatball was. We ended up naming him Rudy ,, since Meatball just didn't fit his personality or lack hereof.

We bought all the toys Senegals supposedly liked ,,, wood ,,, toys with a bunch of different colored wood disks, etc., got him a cage fit for a king. For a week, he would sit in one place in the cage and in one place during the day on the play top. He would occasionally chew on a wood disk ,,, would move to eat and that was just about it.

Yesterday, one week later, we went to another store that had a Senegal thinking that perhaps Rudy needed some company --- even though Basil and Pasta were right across the foyer. The owner suggested some toys instead of a companion. We got him a couple of destructible toys with springy tassels made of a paper like material. Within minutes, Rudy was playing with his new toys and was all over his cage. Now, when we leave the area, he is looking for us and chirping, in a Senegal kinda way. His whole personality changed.

Apologize for the long winded intro ,,, hope this helps or helps to help someone else with a seemingly depressed Senegal.

Welcome to the forums. Your birds are beautiful. It's funny how the toy thing works out. My Meyer's is the odd one of my bunch. Doesn't like store bought an prefers my attempt at toy making while the Conure loves just about anything. Looking forward to future posts :)

Welcome to the forums! Great story and beautiful pics. Our CAG hasnt touched any of the toys we bought him. He can destroy a piece of cardboard with ease though and also can destroy his natural wood branch perches rather well but leaves the toys alone. Maybe we just havent found the right ones yet, but he has an abundance.
