- GCC: Pretty Bird h.1/10/12 & CAG: Mj h. 2/18/12 & Scarlet Macaw: Scarlet h. 7/12/12
Currently own a GCC. We named him Pretty Bird. Very lovable never even tries to bite.
Considering getting another parrot. Doing research now...
My sister had a half moon conure (Frank) when I was 12, (oh, so long ago, ugg) he was tame at one point. When I got around him he was nasty. I worked with him with a glove at first as to not get bitten. He calmed down after some time. Eventually the glove came off and he would step up and started saying hello again. And clicking while bombing his head. He loved doing that. He died maybe 10-15 years ago. I would have to guess he was in his 20's when he died.
Local parrot shop, which the owner is a breeder and hand feeder of all his birds has 7 CAG's about 3 weeks old that he hatched himself. Also has 2 lilac crowned amazons around 4 to 5 months old. They posture alot acting like they'll bite but will step up and are saying hello and wuda wuda wuda. I was holding #126 (his band number) the other day for almost 2 hours. Ive been to visit them 4 times so far. The other one #127 is about a week and a half older. He postures much more like he'll bit but seems less likely that he would. I like #126 better. My wife came with me the other day and thought he was nasty. They also have a Panama amazon a little younger that is the sweetest thing. He mouths your finger playing with it and is a pure joy. If he was the lilac I would be hard pressed to not have him. I like the color of the lilac better then the Panama plus he costs more then the greys.
At the store a couple of days ago my wife fell in love with a goffin cockatoo, I told her they need lots of attention and that they are kind of neurotic lol she was still young and just wanted to be held and loved.
Now onto the grey's I'm under the impression?? That TAG's are more accepting of being handled by more people. I would be primary my wife would be second caretakers. She and I basically want a bigger and talking version of our lovable Pretty Bird.
I've handled at the store both TAG's and cag's they are so pretty and smart.
Thanks
Casey
