Hello - I am Mags, I have a senegal called Mason. I have only had him a few months and he is about 4 years old. I have struggled a bit getting him to accept me but worked at it and thought I'd cracked it. He steps up for me and has a nuzzle and rubs his head on my hand for me to stroke him and sits on my knee. He seemed to be really happy until the last week, he started attacking me and biting me, then there have been some feathers out which I was really upset about. He has even been turning his back on me. When I got home today there were 2 feathers out but he did have a little stroke from me. He seems to be preening and itching alot. I don't know if I have done something to upset him or he might be ill. I have read about molting but not sure if this is what is happening. Would he be moody and agressive with me if he was molting? Any suggestions, I am so worried about him.

Look close & see if there are any little white pin feathers popping through, he could be going into a moult & if so, they often get irritable, especially if you happen to brush their new feathers the wrong way.....

Although moulting is finished before hormonal season starts, that's a possibility also, for the attitude change & nipping/biting.....

I wouldn't worry so much about getting accepted as with some birds, 4 months is not necessarily a long time for them to come around.....

Welcome to the forum, glad you dropped in.....

Thank you, not sure if I can get close enough but I will try. He has just had a nice stroke on his head so he must be feeling a bit better.
I try for him to be out of his cage as much as possible but at the minute he just wants to fly around shrieking and trying to land on my picture rail!
Think it must take alot of time for him to get used to me, when I first got him I couldn't handle him at all so I suppose I have made good progress really. I worry about him all the time!
Thank you
Mags & Mason
