Hi. I joined back on Tuesday, and would like to introduce myself and my birds. I got my first bird back in July 2012. She was a 2 year old sky blue budgie, I named her Feather Weight. She died 5 weeks later for bleeding. I got another budgie at the age of 3 months, she was a clear wing, cinnamon, thing. She was all white with dark eyes (with irises in later life). I got a cage mate for her 2 months later. A young female blue budgie. Clicky (white budgie) and Cassie (blue budgie) got along fine. Cassie died at the age of 2 1/2 on February 18th 2015. Clicky died nearly a year later at the age of almost 4 (hatched in May) on January 28th 2016.
Elvis my cockatiel was 4 months old when I got him on February 14th 2016. I was looking for a young male, but because young males and females look alike I knew my changes were 50/50. Elvis started whistling to his mirror, and I knew he was a male. So I got him. I also got what I didn't intend for. Elvis was a hand raised bird. He is a white faced, split pied, cinnamon or split cinnamon cockatiel.
I could play with him immediately after getting home, he didn't want to go in his new cage.
Chrissy (formally known as Chris) is a normal green budgie. He was 6 months old when I got him on July 7th 2016 as a friend for Elvis. I couldn't spend enough time with Elvis, so I got him a budgie friend. Love at first. Chrissy isn't hand tamed, and was parent raised. He does step up on command, and doesn't freak out when I get close to him, but he doesn't like people. He was quite depressed after leaving all the other birds at the store, but he got over in within a month.
Jordan is a peach face lovebird I got on December 20th 2016. Jordan was supposed to be my Christmas present, but that was the closest day we could go out. Jordan's gender is unknown, but I'm going to check the pelvic bones soon, but for now Jordan is going to be referred to as a she. I got her as a 9 week old, fully weaned, fully flighted, and hand raised baby.
The pet store I got Cassie, Chrissy, Jordan from breeds their own birds! It is a family owned and operated store. The store where I got Elvis from is also a family owned and operated store, but they get their birds from local breeders. The store where I got Feather Weight and Clicky from is deaths door, also known as petco. I'm never getting another animal from there again. Both of the family owned and operated pet stores sell birds that are of good health, I pointed out a sick once, and they immediately separated the bird and looked for signs of illness in the other bird that were in the same cage. These are probably the best pet stores around, meaning I'll never ever set foot in petco or petsmart again!
