My four year old brother was playing with my parrot. She was sat on his shoulder and he was giggling and petting her, and she climbed onto his back. For some reason he decided to roll over and squish her partially. I yelled at him to get off and she flew onto my wardrobe. I got her down and petted her and murmured her name and she was really quiet. She could still fly and walk, she drank a little water off my finger. She's just really quiet and it's not like her at all :( She's going to a pet boarding in a couple of hours since we're going on an important holiday, but I don't know if I have to cancel everything. She's just really quiet and not herself, I'm really worried. What do I do? Do I wait?

Welcome to the Forum.

No, don't wait - take her to the vet as soon as possible (NOW!!). She may have suffered internal bleeding when she was crushed. Good luck!

Take her to the vet right away, my fingers are crossed for you that she is okay! <3

I would take your bird to the vet. It could just be in shock, but it also could be suffering from an internal injury. Over the years, I have spent hundreds, if not thousands of dollars on "emergencies" that have turned out to not be emergencies at all. I think it is better to err on the side of caution; overtime, you will also be able to be a better judge of what constitutes an emergency and what you can do at home for pet care. Good luck to you and I hope your bird is ok.

Grey, I do not think that your reply was very kind or helpful. This person is obviously not in a position to just cancel her trip. Implying that she is being irresponsible is hurtful and uncalled for. Sometimes people are forced to choose between their pets and other factors in their lives. It is easy to say that pets come first until you are faced with a real hardship. This person is looking for advice and assistance--keep that in mind please.

I agree, some people get a "holier than thou" complex thinking that they are right and everyone is wrong. When a person comes onto a site asking for help, it's one thing to say "you need to get your pet to vet right away", it's another thing to say "your an irresponsible owner that shouldn't go on an important vacation". We don't know the persons life, or what is going on. Maybe that vacation is for a dying member of their family, our an important business trip that can't be delayed and after the meeting it's vacation time". You just never know what the personal issue is. When someone comes for help, they don't mean to say they won't take it too a vet. They are here asking if anyone had experience with this issue, and should I be worried. What if it was something that the bird does normally and they took it to the vet, they just wasted a trip and money for something they could have easily found out on this site was a normal thing for a conure to do. So don't be harsh on new people, give advice and if that advice leads to a saved bird, than isn't that why we are on here giving advice in the first place?

I would suggest getting your bird checked out before boarding it, make an emergency appointment, but If this is not normal for your bird the only way to know for sure is a vet visit. Plus you have the added benefit of a check up before you board it, giving it a clean bill of health before the boarding in case something happens while your gone. You would have proof of your birds health before boarding, and what happened after would be on the people boarding it.

I agree with everybody else, Theyres a chance of internall bleeding . Is they're a chance you could make a appointment in a hour ? It's always important to make an appointment at the earliest time and when you make the appointment tell them it's a emergency and maybe they could fit you in earlier. I do not blame your brother as he s little but could you teach him how to play with a bird safely to prevent future injuries ? Tell your parants this and talk with them about your trip . .

Thank your feathered friend to the vet and don't be afraid to come back on here and post. Ignore those who get snotty with new comers. Please let us know what happens :)

Either take her to the vet immediately or put her somewheere quiet, warm with a heating pad outside of one side of the cage so she can move away from it if she wants, provide orange juice, pedialyte, or gatorade to help with energy levels and try to keep her fed the entire time. She could have internal damage so either stay home with her or take her to the vet

Please let us know how your birdy goes!

If you're worried you could always check if the vet can board him, that way he can get looked after if there is an injury and you can still make your trip. Of course I'm not sure what your situation is or what's available in your area! Good luck, fingers crossed he's ok!

Sorry for the late reply. After about five minutes she was back to normal, I think she was just scared by me freaking out thinking she was dying. Now I look back my brother hardly touched her at all, he went off to the side as he was rolling. She's fine now and sat on my shoulder, trying to preen my eyebrows. Thanks all (mostly) for your replies <3 Very thankful.

This thread was strated by a different person..... 023casper, not 023akala.....

I would still take her to the vet. My birds hid their symptoms when they got out of their cage once and got hurt, acting all playful and stuff. When I took them to the vet later, they had bad internal bleeding and respiratory problems. Now they're fine, thanks to the medicine. Please take her to the vet. Birds hide their problems or sickness, so I say please please please take her.

It was two weeks ago, so there's probably not much point now! ;)

THis was from a long time ago! In hindsight I should have taken her, but in the end she was totally fine and acting strange because I was freaking out like a weirdo about it haha. Thank you for the concern though. Also Grenage, I live in Portsmouth (or near to it anyway) too!
