Green Cheek Conure named Arthur!
i've heard SO many methods now for getting your green cheek to stop biting. some say that you should set them on the ground, or put them back in their cage. but i can barely even get him away from his cage... he's biting me as soon as i go to pick him up :(

it seems as if he'd be much happier just sitting on the top of his cage all day by himself..... :( i'm confused.

he's just about 4 months old. does it have something to do with age? and as he gets older he'll want to venture out more?

(we've also only had him for about 2 1/2 weeks too.)

here's a great article, it explains why parrots bite, and how to stop it. also, try having him step up on a perch when taking him from his cage and put him in neutral territory before handling him. you can also trick train him. teach him a simple trick, like turning around and when he gets wound up, ask him to do the trick. it will distract and occupy him. good luck :)!!!

Ann covered it really well, as to the why well you may never know but under stand that he knows the cage top and what you are asking is new and may be scary but read up on everything you can and watch all the youtube videos Good luck

Try target training until he is hand tame, he may just be territorial of his cage. Erin our Macaw was, so we nixed the cage and built a huge tree stand- problem solved! :)

I think it has everything to do with his age along with the fact he has not completely gotten used to you. I would stop trying to take him from his cage, let him make the first move. Just leave the door open and sooner or later he will want to be right in the middle of what you are doing. He needs to learn to trust you and you both need to learn each others quirks, especially you need to learn what sets him off and that can take time. Avoid doing the things that make him bite. GCC's are very nosy and inquisitive about what you are doing. If you are eating or sewing or whatever, they want to help. He will come to you when he is ready. Things will get better he is very young. At that age Forrest loved to get up around my neck while I was watching tv. He would get up under my hair. He has never been one that liked to be petted. You have to do things on their terms. Forrest is in time out right now because this morning I was a chewstick. He wanted on me constantly but only nipped me constantly. IN a few minutes he should be fine. They just have days when they get overstimulated. I actually think he wants to go to my daughter's (parrotmamma) and play with crackers. If he doesn't get to see her at least every other day he gets pesty. LOL
