Hi

I am from SA and am the proud owner of a little Goffin. I am not sure if it is a he or a she But Luca is the most adorable little baby.

Luca has been home for a week now. According to the pet store owner she is about 2 1/2 months old (10/11 weeks?). Very tame, happy little bird. I'm in a wheelchair and within two days Luca understood that I couldn't pick her up so when I open the cage door she comes to me. I know according to the websites I shouldn't allow her on my shoulder but I need help getting her off so... She seems to understand that I can't scratch her head when she's on my shoulder so she comes down to my chest for some TLC.

I am a little concerned about her lack of interest in eating fruits, veggies and soaked foods. We give her formula 4 x a day and she nibbles on the soaked foods, but not really. She also doesn't hold any foods with her foot yet.

At what age is a cockatoo weaned? And any tips on how to go about is would be great!

Hello and welcome to the forum:)

Congrats on your new addition.

She is still very young yet and I would not worry too much about her not eating fruit or veggies yet. As she is still being fed 4 times a day, she is probably full. You could try cutting out one of her feeds... you may then find she will start eating the other food you are offering.

They are normally weaned anywhere between 12 - 16 Weeks, but some can take longer.. It really depends on the individual Bird.

She will eventually pick food up in her feet.

Do you have some pics to share with us?

Here is a very good link that tells you all you need to know about Goffins :)

Thank you so much! I'm sure I'll be back for more questions. This is a little new to me. :)
I'll do my best to put a pic as soon as I can

Welcome to the forum. Enjoy your new baby.

I agree with wenz2712, 4 feedings a day at her age isn't necessary. Cut back on the feeding (3 times a day) and her interest in fresh/cooked fruits and veggies should pick up. Nalani LOVES corn and peas, so when she was weaning I offered her those two foods every day while experimenting with other types of food as well. Soon you will notice that she eats less or refuses the afternoon feeding, then you can take that out and only feed her 2x a day, morning and evening. Just continue this until she refuses the feedings all together.

GOOD LUCK and CONGRATS on your new baby :)
