I reasently got a baby cockatiel for the past two weeks hes been taking his formula just fine but last night he only took a small amount and refused anymore i assumed he was still full from the last feeding and gave him some time this morning he took even less formula and spit out most of it. I decided he might want to start weaning and offered him some spray millet throughout the day hes been peking at it but i doubt he’s eaten much i’ve been trying to continue with the formula but he wont even open his beak for the seringe anymore its now night time and im worried because hes fluffed up, unbalanced, and barly opens his eyes and hes normally really alert theres no vets open in my area right now and i need help on anything i can do to atleast make his chances of making through the night higher please if you have any tips or ideas on what this may be let me know. Thank you!

Hi kikothecockatiel, welcome to the Forums, but I'm sorry it's under these worrying circumstances however.

Unfortunately I am not familiar with hand-raising or feeding babies, but refusal to eat is always a concern, as is the imbalance and lethargy that you describe. There is a chance that your little one may have been ill for some days but you just may not have known it, as birds have evolved to be extremely good at masking signs of illness. Just in case you are not familiar with avian vets near you, I've linked up a resource that may help you to find a specialist in your area first thing in the morning - you may even find one in your area with after-hours emergency care here...

In the meantime, I hope some of our members who have will spot your thread and can offer you some practical assistance. Thanks for reaching out, and I am sending all my very best wishes to your and hopes that your baby will be ok!
