Parrots
Cypress (teal) and Citrine (green) - male american budgies, 7 months.
After my beautiful baby Tig (Tigmamanukan), a gorgeous turquoise pied, died (after only 4 days with me).. I'm having trouble coming up with equally awesome names.

These two will be coming home with me in a couple weeks..
Any suggestions?

I am so sorry about your loss. How heartbreaking...

Did you, by chance...have a necroscopy performed in order to determine the cause of death? Just so that you know whether there is anything you need to disinfect or whether there was a poison in your home...

Please be absolutely certain that you are using no Teflon/PTFE/PFOA/PFCs (these are found in things like pots, pans, irons, space heaters, griddles, curling irons, blow dryers, waffle irons, air fryers, popcorn poppers, electric skillets etc). They produce very deadly fumes when heated and they can kill on separate floors and through closed doors when used in the house. I am only saying this because they are one of the leading causes of death in captive parrots...

Names....I am thinking ;)
Again- they are lovely and I am happy for you! Just trying to spare you from more heartbreak in case this was something you didn't already know (as many people do not).

Thank you.
The vet did not do a necropsy unfortunately.. I asked about it, but he said he did not think it would bring up anything conclusive.
Of course since it was an emergency and I had not yet had a chance to establish care with the avian specialist a few towns over, he was a "regular vet" who also treats birds... I'm not sure if the avian specialist could have been more helpful.

We do not have any teflon cookware, got rid of all air freshners etc before I brought her home.. the only item I know of that could possibly have had teflon/PTFE/PFOA/PFCs is an electric space heater we've had for years, but the brand claims it is teflon free and I only turned it on after she was already acting off - thinking if she was sick that some extra warmth would be important.
(The cage now has a snuggle up bird heater in case something like this comes up again, and thermometer..)

I watched her with a baby camera all day while I had her and it sure looked like she was eating (and I made sure she had her food freshened up twice a day) but he thought she was really thin when we rushed her in.
I fed her the same brand pellets and seeds as her breeder so I'm not sure why she wouldn't have been eating it. She also had millet available all day, and fresh water.

Of course she was fine and playing and everything right up until a few hours before I rushed her over to the vet. Sneaky birds :(

It happened about a month ago now. I scrubbed down the cage and toys and have given them time to air out.

I am pretty scared of it happening again but I really don't know what could have caused it.
I guess either something was already wrong with her.. something was wrong with her food.. or there is some mysterious toxin just existing in my house that I haven't been able to identify and is not affecting anyone in my family.

:(

I’m glad you’re getting new birdies. I was so heart broken when I read your post about losing your first babe. 💗

Remember that Teflon is a brand of PTFE/PTOA. Something should be marked free of all similar toxins to be truly toxin free, otherwise it may still be lingering in the materials.

Sorry for your loss
For some Reason I'm thinking Cheerio, and Cheers
:)

Thank you for your kindness! I'm still real sad but hopeful it wasn't actually my fault.

The heater was a lasko ceramic oscillating tower with digital controls to stop it from getting too hot .. actually one of the places that convinced me that heater should be safe was this forum!
Don't plan on using it again just in case.

Oh yeah, sounds fine! I totally get wanting to air on the side of caution though.

You know, sometimes very sad things happen and there’s nothing we could have done. It’s okay to feel the way you do. It’s wonderful that you’re choosing to continue forward bringing home some much deserving fids!

From your posts, I can tell you are a very sensitive and caring parront and your new babies will be so lucky to have you, and your original baby was so lucky to have a wonderful final four days. [emoji175]

How about Keet and ReKeet?

Don't forget microwave popcorn, the bags have a PTFE coating that out gasses if you over heat the popcorn, like to get the last few kernals to pop.

Do popcorn machines have PTFE?

I don't know, it would be well to check w/the manufacturer.

YES- VERY OFTEN. In fact, many microwave popcorn bags contain a clear-coat of PTFE. The popper machines themselves almost always do.

edit-- just see that someone already said what I was saying about the bags, but air poppers and regular poppers are very likely to contain PTFE/PFOA/PFCS/Teflon.

Hm.. kind of thinking maybe Cypress and Sage?
They don't "match" in types of plant, but they kinda flow.

After I originally I got my budgies I could not think of what to call them, so looked online for suggestions. For me best suggestion was to name them after a favorite hobby. My budgies are named after two of my favorite fiddle tunes. Do you have a hobby to name them after - or, any favorite musicians or songs?
