Today my avain vet insisted Nameliss get real birdie baths. As in most of her feathers wet. He saw a few signs of lack of moisture in her feathers. I got a brief lecture that CAG's need a bit higher humidity. I didn't get away with the but doc response. I have tried over the years but nothing works. Parrots can hold grudges. She won't go in the kitchen, bathroom voluntarily. Spray bottles are attacked on sight. Water bowls are examined, dismantled or thrown on the floor. Any suggestions? Humidity in her area is kept 70%, temp 77°.

Ah, our opinionated birds. My Quaker will only bathe in his pink mug and he can never quite get all of himself wet, but attempts to get him to try other dishes have failed.
Okay, this might sound crazy but I’ll just throw it out there; some people soak leafy greens with water, like big leaves of lettuce, and their birds rub/roll on them as their ‘bath.’ No idea how Nameless would feel about that ? Hope you get some good ideas and find something that works

Salty's species, yellow shoulder Amazon, despite being a Amazon (who usually love water and bathing) is from an arid island off the coast of Venezuela. He has never been a lover of taking a bath. If left to his own devices, he takes a water bowl bath every few months. BUT - if I spritz him with a water bottle just a little bit, like once a week, it triggers him and he will run to his bowl and bath in it.

I would suggest you douse Nameliss with a spray bottle while he's in his cage and can;t escape, have a water bowl in there too and see if it triggers him to bathe. If he still will not, just gonna have to spray him til he is soaking wet while still in his cage. Note- i got one of these battery powered sprayers, cuz my hand will not take pumping a hand sprayer that long. Not terribly expensive. if the spray tip is colored, you might consider painting it white or covering with white tape, so its the same as the body of the sprayer.

What Wrench13 suggested is what I used to have to do with Scooter the CAG. When I adopted her, her former owner said that she never took baths. I started misting her a couple times a week. She didn't like it much and tried to get away from the spray, growling all the way, but I persisted. After she watched QP Ralph splashing in his water dish a few times, Scooter decided to try it and after that would do it once in a while. I continued misting her since she was a feather chewer and her skin looked dry if I didn't. She never enjoyed being misted but she learned to tolerate it.

I did try something just as weird. Her dry feathers are on her head. I wrapped her in her torture blanket. It's only used for nails, medicine etc. Took her in bathroom. Steamed it a bit. Then dripped warm water on her head with my finger tips. Listening to her it was acid mixed with burning oil and gasoline! It took 3 whole pistachios before she forgave me. The next day she flew into the hall and ran under the couch! She moved with it. Parrot pot pie with potatoes seemed like an interesting meal. She came out with 4 pistachios, topped with 2 whole cracked pecans. Naturally she kept an eye out for the blanket of torture. I had to sneak it on her. Who ever started the saying 'bird brain' obviously didn't own a parrot! I'm going to have to become inventive or she's going to adapt.

I have set up a misting system in the shower. Literally creates a heavy fog in the bathroom. Only way I can get HRH Gracie The Grey to accept water.

I'm convinced out Grey overlords are related. Especially since we are located reasonably close to each other. In fact I rescued my grey BOSS from SA.

tried the spray with my Harlequin male. DEFINITE NO!!! put a outdoor ceramic tray on a pedestal in the aviary. I notice most (not all) use it as both a drinking fountain/or/spar bathing machine. Only one likes to be "hosed down" and that is on his terms, when he wants. So I really don't involve myself, apart from being aware of each individuals health and status.
