Sun Conure hatched January 2016
I joined this community in order to share information with people far more experienced in avian culture than I could ever hope to be. However I keep running into road block after road block when trying to create or join a forum. The error message I'm confronted with claims I don't have the clearance and or permission from the administrator. Perhaps I'm making a feeble mistake but any help to transvers my current dilemma would be greatly appreciated.

On the other hand if someone actually reads this message one of my more serious and time sensitive questions concerns my sun conure sneezing. Now there is nothing blocking his nasal passages. No mucus or anything like that. I would also like to mention that 9/10 times he sneezes (probably more) it's just air. In fact only one time ever since I've had him have I felt a liquid substance exit through one of her sneezes. But I'm worried non the less and considering where I live avian vets are few and far between. The one I was able to take her to see didn't seem as if he knew what he was doing.

General information on my sun: my bird is approximately 6 months old I feed her an excellent diet plus I add bird supplements aka vitamins to her water everyday. She has been picking at the end of her tail feathers the Vet said it was just her over preening due to molting. Also I would like to add that she was displaying this excessive preening behavior when I bought her. In fact the pet store sold her cheaper than the other birds because of this and the fact that her plumage wasn't as bright as the others.

Hi Mwolfe1080 and welcome to the forum. I cant help you with either of your queries but I have no doubt one of the Mods will help you with your technical difficulty and someone who has experience with Sun Conures may be able to help you with your Sun Conure. What did your vet say? Parrots do sneeze from time to time but you are obviously talking about ongoing frequent sneezing.

What Birdigirl said.
Please hang in there. This is a great place... so much knowledge and support.
Maybe Sunday (weekend) is a bit slow.
I have had my bird for 32 years and I *STILL* learned some things!
And... sounds like we need to help find you a good AVIAN vet... do you mind telling us approximately where you are?

Welcome to the forum. Sometimes birds sneeze to clear their nasal passages. I know this is especially common in dusty birds, such as toos, tiels and greys. I think as long as there's no discharge mostly then she seems okay otherwise besides the molting. When in doubt, seek medical help if you can find a good avian vet which can be difficult. Birds itch and preen a lot when they molt. Sometimes when little feathers fly around that could also make them sneeze. Likewise when they molt, new feathers replace old feathers so they don't have the perfect looking feathers during their molt.

Well, I will hazard a guess/thought... my bird sneezed a LOT during his first moult into his "big boy" feathers. Almost all dry sneezes. The color-dullness puzzlers me, though. We really need to get you a good vet!
I'm so sorry... you must be a little frantic... I recall the first few years with my precious parrot pal...
There were times I would just stare at him and think... "how am I gonna keep ypu alive?"

Greetings, and welcome to the forum! I don't think you will have any technical problems with this forum as your registration page appears normal and there are no issues with your email and IP address. Please let me or any moderator know if you have any issues!!

While I don't have conures, occasional sneezing may be normal. Habitual repetition, particularly if "wet" with mucous can be a sign of illness. If you don't feel comfortable with the avian vet it may be helpful to find another, particularly if the choices are slim.

Depending on your Sun Conure's specific diet, vitamin additives to the water may be excessive. Please check with your vet for more guidance!

Does your sun play in his water a lot? My Ekkie can be rather sneezy when she's been playing in her water or right after a shower. She likes to hang upside down and stick her head in her water dish.

Hello, and welcome to Parrot Forums!

As Scott said, it wouldn't appear that your technical issues have extended to this site. We're here, though, if you do experience any issues.

Other reasons have already been given for your sun conure's sneezing, but another possibility could be dry air. A lack of sufficient humidity in the air can cause occasional sneezing fits. How frequently are we talking?

And I agree with what Scott said about the vitamin supplements. Were they prescribed by an avian vet? Because there is even the possibility that too much of said vitamins could be the instigator for her over-preening.

Looking forward to more posts from you, and pics of your SC would be much appreciated. We LOVE pics, hereabouts!

Dang, I didn't expect any feedback much less all that I got. Thanks for all the input. Especially the concept behind the connection between a birds first molt and sneezing. Since discovering this could be a/the problem I'm starting to lean this way as a being most likely cause. Also I'm not just leaning that way because it makes me feel more secure. Although it does. I'm still looking for a better vet even to the extent of something online. Also one of the replys mentioned me claiming my bird had color distortion. I should have elaborated that there really wasn't so much a color distortion as the pet store just wanted to get rid of the bird because he was no where near as pretty as the other sun conures they had.

Not as pretty? I bet we will disagree! Tell me the name of the store and I'll go punch 'em in the nose(s)!
