Hi all,
I'm Sammael, Sam for short
me and my flock make three. Its been a challenge learning to fly the nest and be on a student budget on my own while keeping my little flock together and happy but, for their part, Jacko and Sully have been patient and loving.
Jacko was my first exploration into parrots and he came into my life via a smoky basement and some sketchy characters my father worked with--he is a rescued 10 year old Timneh Grey and although he and I have had our disagreements, almost 6 years later, he's my best buddy. He's still a plucker and sometimes quite a self-confident little poop disturber but Ill take that compared to the terrified, unsocialized pitiful little creature he came into my life as.
Sully owes his residence with me due to some teenage silliness wherein I decided that Jacko needed a friend lol. So I received this tiny, feisty yet scaredy cat bird when he was a baby and had just started eating on his own. He's about 5 now, and although a bit of a drama king, he's cute and snuggly in that way Cockatiels (particularly the pied variety) often are. Loud? YUP. But I suppose if I had a giant flying beastie 5 times my size persistently trying to make an hors d'oeuvre out of me I'd be too.
I tend to be a bit of a naturalist as far as my parrot-keeper philosophy goes and as such both my birds are flighted and I try my best to give them what they would have in the wild and to understand, work with, and communicate with them as they would one parrot to another.
I'd love for some inter-flock peace and maybe if they'd come down from the shower curtain rod when I asked---but for right now lol I'll settle for them to remain healthy and as happy as I can make them.
Looking forward to getting to know everyone and getting some good insight and help and ideas
