Eclectus male
Just to say hello.

I'm Bronte, i live in york (England) and i have adopted my mums parrots as she has just died. I have a gray and an male eclectus(billy) Both have settled in fine. Tho i think billy has a cold. Not sure if it is with taking him to the vets and all the stress that they cause, our just keep him extra warm and put him on warm egg mix?? I'll go with my instincts. Xxxx

I'm very sorry to hear about your mom, but I'm glad her birds have been welcomed into your home. Im guessing you have some experience with them, and i think they will both be wonderful additions to your home. I'm not sure what symptoms your seeing in Billy to make you think he may have a cold, but a sick parrot is always a concern, even with a just a cold. Perhaps you could call the vet first and see if he/she feels it's necessary to bring him in based on symptoms, or if he's best to recover quietly at home. Best of luck to you!

Sorry to hear of your mom's passing.

Welcome! I hope billy perks up but if not get him in for a vet check just to be safe. Have you got any piccies?

Thanks everyone. Xx
Billy seems a bit better. But I'll keep a close eye on him.
My house mate has really taken to them, which I'm very glad of.
Tho he is a bit annoyed that he can not iron in the living room any more.
Ah well. :-)

Welcome to the forum. Sorry about your mom.

Welcome to the forum! I am sorry to hear about your Mum. It's nice to see someone take care of the family birds, i see so many people who just re-home when something like this happens. I hope you find comfort in each other.

Welcome to the forum. Sorry to hear about your Mom, she will be looking down guiding you in taking care of her darling birds. Hope all goes well & Billy is not sick. Keep us informed as to their progress & how everyone is doing through this transition in ya'lls lives.

Your macaw is stunning!!!!
We had one once, he was rushed to us because he was deformed.
hump back, crop hung too low so he couldnt eat. :(
little spikey crying parrot with big watery eyes.
he snuggled into my arm, and i figured that if could maybe lift his crop... the muscles might grow around it and he might live.
So i cup up a bra, (it was small as i was only 10) turned it into a crop harness, and after about 4 months he was eating fine.
A lot of people disagree with keeping a disabled parrot alive... but he had a brilliant life.
he only lived for 19 years, but thats 19 more then having his neck broken. xxxx

he was an amazing parrot, and one day i will get a macaw for myself. xx

Awww, that is soo sweet what you did for the special macaw. Yes, 19yrs. more than he would have had if he hadn't found a caring person as you! I like the idea of a bra for a crop harness. Very ingenious idea.

I have 2 Catalina macaw brothers. Roscoe is the younger one & is normal in every way. Angel his older brother was born with leg deformities that prevent him from standing on them. He is not handicapped tho as he climbs with the best of them & loves life to the fullest. All he needs in way of special treatment is a few more limbs criss-crossed so he can lean across them. He is a joy to be owned by.
