Kiyomi - sun conure
I've been following this forum since I decided to buy a sun conure and visit enough that I decided I might as well become a member while I was at it.
:rainbow1:

Two weeks ago I brought home my baby. Kiyomi is a sun conure I purchased from a breeder that does hand-feeding. She is a good little girl but still has that famous conure attitude. She has been trained to "step up" and go "down". She is also already imitating laughing and is trying to say "mama", though she hasn't quite gotten that yet.

She turned 3 months old on Tuesday, so she is still in what I call the "baby phase": nibbling and nipping at whatever she find interesting. Its much like having a crawling-phase baby. Everything goes in the mouth... at least until she figures out that it is not food.

We have been dealing with the nipping by putting her down when she does it and giving her a few minutes to cool off. I don't put her in the cage because my breeder is of the belief that birds then learn to bite when they want to go in the cage and I certainly don't want my sweet girl to have that habit. I have found that the closer it gets to 8pm the more nippy she gets, just like any other baby that gets cranky when tired.

My Kiyomi loves to hide in this particular grey sweater that I had worn the first night I brought her home. It has become a ritual of sorts... after I have dinner I bring her out and sit on the couch. She crawls into the sweater and pokes her head out and we play peek-a-boo while she's on my chest. When she moves up to my shoulder, it means she wants to nap. I just let her be up there on my shoulder with her little head poked out while I play on my iPad or read.

I've figured out that she loves apples and blueberries, but she will do ANYTHING for a piece of walnut or those little white seeds that come in the cockatiel seed treat mix (not millet, the bigger ones). We are working on the nipping. She tagged me pretty good this morning when I picked her up from off the bed where she was playing but I chalk that up to her being excited about the bed and the toy.

So far she has been great.

We had parakeets before this but they died. :(

Rather than getting another set of 'keets, I decided to upgrade to something a little larger and a little smarter. :D

Welcome to the forum! Kiyomi sounds so nice. My GCC'S are going through the baby phase too, lol. ;) Just 4 months old. Anyway, don't be shy to ask any and all questions. The people here are so helpful, so feel free to ask. :)
