Hello all. About a month ago I brought Roxy to my mother-in-law's house for birdsitting for a few days. She has been there several times over the past 4 1/2 years varying from 2 days to 3 weeks once when they were doing work on my apartment. She has two birds as well, and Roxy always seems to like it there because she talks to the other birds and I have never had a problem. Until this last time. The very next day after I dropped her off, Roxy had pulled a large majority of her chest and neck feathers out. Roxy has NEVER plucked before EVER. I don't understand why she would do it so acutely. I thought maybe it was stress. Anyways, I brought her home and she stopped.
Her feathers grew back in a lot, and three weeks later (last week) she laid two eggs. This is normal for her, last year she laid a clutch every three months. I keep them in there for 30 days then take them out, unless she breaks them and eats them first. This was her first clutch since December, but still no issues with binding or anything. So, I figured that maybe the plucking was hormone related. She accidentally broke both of these eggs (she does a lot of kicking around) and ate each one. The last one was a few days ago. Well last night I saw her pluck a feather out right in front of me. I put her in her cage and covered her for the night and over night she had plucked all of the new ones out that had just grown in! Does this sound like something hormonal? I am making an appointment with the vet for this week just in case. I am just so upset that she is all of a sudden plucking like this. I only feed her fresh food, no pellets, and I have always been very careful about what I give her.
Please help!
