Hospital scare !

So I came home from work yesterday and one of baby's toes was caught on a toy and she was dangling by one leg for what could have been all day ! I immediately took her to my nearest avian hospital and he said her leg was doslocated so he popped it back in place, he said if I would have waited to bring baby in the next day we could have had to amputate her leg and spend 700-800 dollars doing it ! He also notice that baby was a little skinny which surprised me because she eats like crazy ! He said to give her hard boiled egg but baby won't eat it, she doesn't even want to go by it. I was wondering if there is anyother ways to get her to eat it, or any other foods that are high in protein and fat.

oh, no, so lucky you found her in time, poor little thing. Glad she's ok. I don't have any suggestions for getting her to eat egg. Does she like nuts? My galah loves cashew nuts.

Oh my gosh, what a scare indeed!

How is Baby's leg? Did the vet wrap it up, so that it has some time to heal before Baby starts putting weight on that leg? That had to have been tremendously painful.

You could try scrambled eggs instead of boiled. Many fids go crazy over those. Sunflower seeds are also high in fat, but I wouldn't give those out in abundance.

I'm so glad you found her and got her care in time. I know how you feel, I came home from work one day to find my cockatiel in her cage and blood all over her and her cage. I rushed her to a vet and it was a blood feather meaning a live feather had broken and bled out. She could have died. They pulled the feather, put the cone of shame on her and we went home. She recovered fast.

Does your bird eat wih you? If my birds see me with food they want to eat so I can eat what I want but give them food when I start to eat, they will eat it no matter how healthy it is. Mine love scrambled eggs. I place an egg in a ceramic bowl, wisk it really good, microwave for one minute. Let it cool and then I give them their serving. They love warm food too. Dang it, I just realized how spoiled they are, lol. Good luck!

How scary for her and you! Glad you found her in time and rushed her to the vet. Hope she recovers fast!

Zilla won't touch a hard boiled egg no matter what I do, but give her some scrambled egg and she goes crazy! You could also try going the carb route with whole grain pasta and rice, Zilla is a carb junky!

OMG, that's scary... I went through a similar nightmare with my gcc Parry, but it lasted for months and cost us hundreds of $$.
I know that there is a egg fortified parakeet diet - why don't use that one?

It's recommended for breeding birds, but I don't think it would do any harm. I used it when I was converting my babies to pellets and they still didn't eat much of them, so I had to give them some more nutritious stuff.

Shame!! Poor baby! It is horrible to think she might have hung there for a long time. I am just so glad you found her in time and got her the help she needed. Will be thinking of both of you and I hope she gets well soon. Keep us updated please!

So glad her leg is okay! Regarding the boiled egg- try her with scrambled and see if she liked that (pro tip: use coconut oil when cooking for an extra nutrition boost!)

If she won't have that, try boiling the egg so the yolk is only just hard- not overdone and chalky- then mash the yolk into the white with a fork until it forms a sort of lumpy paste and spread it on some wholegrain toast. You can cut the toast into thin strips so she can hold it, mine goes mad for it!

No they didn't wrap it up they just left it but baby has not really been putting any to much weight on it, I can tell when she is on my finger that she is standing more on one foot.

He said it would need to be if we left it over night and tried to go in the morning, but it was because of something I forgot the name of but it's basically a build up of blood around the dislocated joint which could cause her leg to go dead and have to be tamed off.

How scary! You just never know whats going to happen when youre gone. Sheldon got his beak stuck in a bell toy. I was sure thankful my daughter was home to save him. But before she did she took a video of him chirping for someone to save him. She grabbed the bell and his little head and he came loose. I'll eventually post that on youtube. Poor fella, he sure looked funny with that bell stuck to his face...LOL

Occlusion? If the blood vessels are blocked off, the tissues beyond the blockage gets no blood and and the tissue dies from lack of circulation.

He's a very lucky bird, that's for sure, that he was discovered when he was.
