how do u tame a grey?

Hi everyone i own a baby lorikeet and hes coming along well he is very tame seing ive only had him 4 weeks, my boyfriends brother has a African grey he has had her just under a year, she came from a rescue centre so we are unsure of her past, shes defiantly better than she was but has only just let us scratch her head she wont be handled an can be aggressive at times what is the best way to tame her?

Buy one from a breeder. That's my first suggestion, but since you are beyond that. it sounds like you are making progress. YOU HAVE TO GAIN A BIRD TRUST, this can take weeks, months and even years. This is why I would never recommend a rescue bird for a first time bird owner.

It will take a lot of patiences..........oh did I mention that IT WILL TAKE A LOT OF PATIENCE. The best way to gain their trust is by sitting near their cage, talking to them, singing to them reading to them and offering them treats from your hands. YOU WILL GET BIT and most likely numerous times. But that is one of the drawbacks of owning a bird. If he is flighted, have his wings clipped so that he is soley dependant on you. The worsest mistake new owners make is once bitten, they steer clear of the bird leaving it locked up in it's cage, which only further desocializes the bird. Then after several months or years, they list it for sale or drop it off at a rescue center. Please don't be one of these people. Take the time and interact with him, I think he will eventually come around.

Sit near the cage, talking and singing to the bird. Let him become familiar with your voice. Leaving the cage door open, offer him treats through the bars at first. When he willingly accepts them, try placing a treat near the open door. Eventually he will starts taking the treats from the door, make no attempt to touch him. When he does come out, he will probably climb around on the cage. Let him explore in his own time. To get him back in, place a treat inside the cage, making sure it's visible.

thank you for your advice, i bought my lori from a breeder so ive had no trouble taming him, i will pass my advice on to the greys owner, i sometimes think he hasnt got the patience to care for her as he got bit the other day and got angry then he didnt let her out for the rest of the day in my opinion thats not the way to do it, its so sad that these beautiful birds end up in rescue centres. If i had the space id take the grey on myself as i have alot of time and patience. The breeders i got my lori off of had a rescue grey they said they have had her years and she has only just let them handle her so i understand what you are saying, thank you very much.
