Hello!

Things are going well with my Meyers Tukki.

I've had her for about 2 weeks now. I can tell that she enjoys my company and is becoming more comfortable with me.

I'm just curious about how long it took your birds to trust you?

She still flutters a lot when I hold her, and scratches are out of the question right now!

After only 2 weeks I'm not expecting her let me do it yet at all! I know every bird is different, but I'm just curious what your experiences were.

Thanks!

For Kippy, it took about 3 months for her to really warm up to me if not longer. I could always hold her but our relationship really kicked off after the 3 month mark. :)

Yeah for me it was about the same, 3 months. It took about a year before she was comfortable enough to let me stretch out her wings, I am the only person she allows to do this :)

Most of the birds we have did great for me from day one except a few that needed work, few of the Cockatiels and JoJo the Eclectus. I did get JoJo to learn to step up in less then a week and took about a month for him to really trust me. Two of the Cockatiels were really wild so they took a long time. Everyone else acts like ok we live here now, woohoo....lol

I've had Ozzie for 9 weeks, now he is really comfortable with me, and allow me to handle him any time I want. I think he really started to trust me at around 7-8 weeks. :)

With my first one, it took about 3 months as well before I figured she trusted us, but A year went by before I realized that there's 'trust', and TRUST. Before she enjoyed us but was still fairly aloof, but now I can say that for the last 6 months she's been constant in her behaviour towards us and is completely trusting and relaxed. The greys, I've had them 4 months now and while I might have initially said they now trust us, I know a year from now they'll be completely different.

Because Rosie already knew me she trusted me to a extent. She didn't start to truly care for me until a few months in though, but she was much more interested in guys.

It took Mishka about a month I guess, I worked from home
He was with me 24/7 for the first 4 months, never leaving my side at all.
Whilst working, he was in the office with me all day.
Going out with me on deliveries and visiting customers.

Every relationship is different. I dont think there is a set standard and you just take it one day at a time.

For my Zuzu, seeing that were his 3rd or 4th owner, and his last owner, it took him 2 months to fully trust me. He wasn't much for liking guys, esp with ballcap on. He'd go right to a woman though no prob, step up and then start spitting up for em lol. But now anyone can hold him and all i have to do is snap my fingers and he'll want to get off them and come to me. Every night before i put him in his bedtime cage, i'll lay on the bed and he'll cuddle up under my chin and making a purring noise. Then he'll climb up to my shoulder, look at his cage and gimme a kiss, flutter his wings and i reach up and place him in there. So basically each bird is different, it'll take some time but Tukki will get used to ya.

Thank you all so much for your replies!
