So apple has been home 72 hours and boy has my life changed.. she is a bundle of sweetness but I am starting to wonder does she have a tapeworm (jking) but one thing is for sure she eats a while lot.. she is killing off two cups of zupreem pellets in a day. She is drinking her fresh water but refuses to eat anything fresh unless it is hand fed.. my lil brat.. she eats all day.. lol she is eating right now.. my scale is in mail so I am unable to weigh her until wed.. so the question is how much does you amazon eat.. oh yeah apple is 4 months old:green2:

2 Cups a day? This is a amazon, not a emu right?

Yeah two measuring cups of zupreem.. her poop is normal.. she is active with her toys.. curious.. still nervous about my hands and the step up.. but no biting.. she is drinking water regular.. but she is eatimg that much food

Wow, how much is she throwing on the floor of her cage? That is a lot of food of a zon.

Not that much is on the floor.. she breaks it down into smaller peices and then eats it.. she is again eating.. so when I first out this post up she was eatinf she toon a break pkayed with her toy I put her in her nite nite cage and she is eating right now

I haven't had a baby zon so I am not sure about a 4 month old one, but it sounds like too much for any age bird.
I would say 2 tbl spoons in the morning and 2 tbl spoons in the evening, for an adult zon.
I am talking fresh or cooked food. My zones rarely eat pellets... :(. Pellets are available the entire day, but not much is touched.
Maybe you should contact the place you got your bird from and check with them how much and what apple was eating there......

That is quite a bit of food per day. Neither my adult amazon or macaw eats that much on a daily basis. Maybe the metabolism of a young bird needs this?

 I agree, that is a whole lot of food.

What type of Zupreem are you feeding her?

Keep at her with the fresh foods, she'll eventually eat them, too.

Is she really active, playing a whole lot? Is she flighted??

IMO a large portion is being "crumbled " up and dropped. I offer a dish with fresh veggies or sprouts.

She is not flighted but she is active. I put fresh veggies in her cage mirnjng I leave them for 2 hours and then I gove them to her for lunch. .. I am going to pay attention to h ow much she is wasting today since it is my last day of maternity leave

When I first got Milo I thought he was eating quite a bit, but then I noticed a lot of it went to waste. He'd throw away food he didn't like and when I cleaned the cage I didn't pay attention to it. Now that I do there isn't as much waste.

Also, when I fed my budgies pellets (zupreem) I noticed they'd only eat about half the pellet. The other half would go flying or just be crushed. I switched them from the budgie size to finch and there was less waste as well as less mess to clean up.

Sammy has a GREAT point with going with smaller bite sizes. Merlee (Denise) told me about that a while back, and it really cuts down on waste. :)

Maternity leave? That is just awesome!!! HAHAHAHAHAHAH!!!!! :D

I will switch the size today. And yep I took maternity leave.. apple is a baby you know.. it was only for a few days :p

When I first got my B&G, I purchased parrot sized pellets. There was more on the floor than in the bird. I went down to the cockatiel size and fits perfectly in the beak. No more waste! It works well with amazons too.

Hello there,

:I was wondering how much your dyh weights ?
