How Safe Would it

I'm all for the safety of birds, but keep in mind that it's probably quite difficult to find quality cages for sale in Nigeria. We don't know anything about teflondon's situation.
Like I always say, 'If you're gonna give advice, try to be nice!'

Teflondon, good luck with your dove! Like the others suggested, I'm sure he'd appreciate some branch perches. They do wonders for the feet!

Just about to say essentially the same thing when I saw where the OP lives! I would guess there isn't a Petco stocked up with a plethora of bird cages around every corner in Nigeria. Given this bird is a dove and doesn't chew like parrots, perhaps the OP could look into some home made wood frame aviary designs to make for it and collect a few natural branches from outside for it to sit on:) I had a friend who kept doves in a hand-made wood aviary which was both beautiful and made a wonderful home for her doves:)

yea its a temporary cage, i just caught one of the parent of the bird

Ohhh good....you had people worried here. As bird lovers that we are on this site you can surely understand our concerns.

Good luck with your bird....nice looking one as well.

You should not keep it, it has feathers and will be fine outside in a brushy area where it can hide until ready to fly away. It's very likely it's mother is in the area and will find it and feed it. I only bring in birds when they are injured, or not feathered. I'd bet the bank it's mother is in the area looking for it. Wild birds should be free, life in a cage is not something they were bred into or will understand. Every wild bird I have rehabilitated has been let go, successfully into the wild. It's where they belong. That would be like if someone put you in cage after you were used to being free, not fun or good for you :( Not good for the bird either.

I think you did a good job building that cage, I could not accomplish something like that! As another reply said this is a dove and probably will not chew perhaps you could make it a wooden cage that would be safer. I'm not sure what it is like in your country, but I'm glad you saved this baby bird and want to give it a good home. Doves are said to make very sweet pets! tree branches and bush Twiggs make great perches as well. If you do make a wooden cage, I'd love to see pictures! Thank you for doing your best and asking questions. I'm sure you will enjoy your new pet.

Good looking homemade cage...I can imagine that it is pretty hard to find suitable cage building materials in Nigeria.....

For those concerned about the dangers of solders, not all are lead based and the spalled slag balls you see are melted steel, not solder.....

Good luck with your dove.....

thanks for your concerns and love, they are all noted, i would provide wooden perch for the bird and try to make a wooden cage for it, as for buying cages back here, they are not readily available like in your country cos most people have dogs as pets, even doe i have found out where i can buy a cage but for now i would have to work on saving up the money for it, would definitely post pics when i do it it

We're definitely looking forward to those pics!
