Hi everyone,

I purchased a second hand perch today, and it's got poop on it. The seller said she cleaned it with bleach, as per her vet's suggestions, but it's still pretty dirty. What can I use to safely clean it so my baby Grey can enjoy it.

Thanks,
Erica

Hi Erica, I guess if it has been cleaned with bleach then what is left is staining.

I would in the first instance try Poop Off as find this a good product or even something like a good scrub with washing up liquid, Dawn I believe there? If this has got it to your liking I would then focus on making sure it is free of any nasties and the likes of F10, Vinegar or steam will all do the job.
Looks a nice tree btw.

Personally, I'm a fan of using a vinegar cleaner for just about everything. it works incredibly well at breaking down bio-mess like poop. Then I just scrub it down with a soft bristled scrubby like I use for my dishes. Hard scrubbies can mess up the wood sometimes at least aesthetically, so i avoid those.

Ditto on the cleaning. Suggestion, remove the SS treat cups and replace with PVC end caps that the SS cups can slip into. Simplifies cleaning!

I just sprayed it with a solutuion of vinegar and water, then used Dawn and a toothbrush to scrub off the remaining poop and stains. It's basking in the sun to dry off.

I agree, and that's exactly what I did. I've adapted to the smell of vinegar years ago, so it doesn't bother me. It did a fine job of cleaning the perch.

That's a great suggestion! I was trying to figure out what to do with the SS cups because they aren't easy to clean without removing.

Since you have adapted, this may not be so relevant a suggestion, but I know a lot of people find the smell of the apple cider vinegar to be much less over-powering. And glad it worked well, fine looking perch you found yourself!
