Reusing cage…???

Hi,

I had an IRN years ago that died because he escaped and my dog got to him. He was tested for diseases at his first vet visit and was negative, but I’m still paranoid for this new baby. The cage has been empty at least 5 years, and we scrubbed it with Dawn and thoroughly rinsed it and let it dry in the sun. Should I try to use diluted bleach too or vinegar maybe? Also, there are two wooden perches, should I just remove them since they’re porous?

Congratulations and paranoia with a new baby is normal. The cage can be reused. Double check areas where bars cross look for rust, dust, dirt or other build up. Those are the places where mold will hide. If the perches came with cage, I'd replace them. Mainly because there's healthier alternatives. The food/water dishes may have hard to see scratches. So give those an extra scrub.

U definitely can re use the cage but get new wood perches anyway. Don’t use diluted bleach. Not good. U already did with dishwashing dawn which it is good enough and sat outside in sun which it is good too.

You'll be fine with the cage . The dowels should be changed out, though, because they are porous and stuff. Best with brand new ones .
