how to keep birds beak nice and smooth?

my green cheek beaks came to me quite rough and dry looking, much like how a cockatoos beaks if often dry looking. is there anything I can do to give him a nice and smooth beak again? if it is not causing him pain or bad for him i don't mind it doesn't affect me but it just looks like it would be annoying or something.

like how macaws often have dry beaks? is it normal?

is there some sort of parrot moisturizer? lols

First of all, be sure that your bird is consuming adequate amounts of calcium and other minerals. Allowing your bird to eat the shell of a hard-boiled egg is a great source of natural calcium.

Secondly, you can try to treat it topically by massaging a very small dab of extra virgin olive oil, palm oil or coconut oil on your bird's beak. These oils are safe, but as they are a bit fatty, only use a small dab so as to minimize ingestion. Never use any sort of moisturizers that a human would use on your bird. As a general rule of thumb, they should all be considered unsafe.

or try popping in a rough perch, nut loves to rub her beak down etc

or give there beak a gentle scratch every now again

i would be wary of using oils simply as they'll be smelling the oil till it wore off, but this is my view

but as mentioned above birds nutrition is most important, you can get mineral blocks etc, trimming perches and so on

I was told that it can be a sign of a mineral deficiency. Puck came to me with a dry-looking beak, but I improved his diet (he was on seeds and "fruit loop" pellets, with some people food). I got him some fancy pellets and fancy fresh/frozen parrot food, and I've been feeding him a lot of fruit.

I've only had him a few weeks, but I think it's starting to grow out. He likes the healthier food just as much as the seeds, and I didn't even have to wean him off them or anything.
