New Sun Conure owner-
His name is Farley, my wife and 3 year old are all helping out with getting him adjusted.

He is really a neat addition to our family. Our only challege so far is he is starting to bite,,,
What started out as nible's are now firm bites and his beak is pretty sharp. I have been reading a ton and have some good advice....I think.
When he bites we calmly say no and hold his beak with the other hand for a few seconds....he doesnt like it. If he continues we walk him to the cage and put him back in for 5 or 10 minutes. It is kind of working but I think its a process of human patience. We do not let the 3 year old handle him but she does feed him pellets by hand and pet him with close supervision. Farley seems to know not to bite at her and she is pretty quick to keep her hands out of the path of his beak. It is a challange but I want her incorperated into the "family flock"
I can use any advice all are willing to give.

One more thing:
How can I get him to eat vegtables? He wont touch them or fruit
I just finished getting him on a pellet diet (he loves them) and seeds to a treat for good behavior. I am in the process of weighing his food to determine how much he is eating daily. Seems to have good poops from what I have been reading.
Currently he is out of the cage for 30 minutes in the morning and about and hour in the evening. He doesnt scream toooo much and from I have been reading we are lucky. he took his first shower with me yesterday-seemed to like it but i need a shower perch!
he sits on a coffee cup on the shower bench (its a big shower) and the over spray gets him pretty wet

Thanks in advance

Cut the fruit & veggies into little pieces. Often birds will not recognize them as food in a large piece. As for training...Patience, persistence & consistency are the keys to teaching them anything.

Puck will pay more attention to food if it's in smaller pieces too. He will ignore a whole apple, but eat up little apple pieces. Good idea, BillsBirds.

How much time does he spend around people, even if he's inside the cage? An hour and a half a day doesn't sound like a lot of time. I have Puck out all the time I'm home, even if he's just on his table or on top of his cage. I'm not saying that you need to do what I do, but make sure he's spending enough time in the same room with you guys. If he's not socialized enough, he could become more wild.

How long have you had him? Puck bit a lot more when I first got him, but now he hardly ever bites. He still does sometimes, but not much compared to how he was in the beginning. When he does bite (or threaten) I put my hand over his head and tell him "No", and if it's bad enough, I put him away until he calms down and/or wants to come back to me.

I wouldn't use the cage as punishment... I want my birds to love their cage, and only good things happens, when they go back into their cages...

As for eating vegies etc... try eating some yourself, and your bird will want to try the food you eat... They're not going to eat something they haven't seen anyone else eat.. In the wild the parrots get shown by other parrots what's safe to eat...

I have two conures. My Dusky will eat anything and everything juicy and disgustingly wet. My Sun will only eat dried fruits and veggies. He doesn't like "wet and moisty" foods. Maybe try getting him some dehydrated veggies and fruits.
