I couldn't resist...

Oled, we knew about the birds a few months ago and worked closely with the husband to perform disease testing long before they arrived at the bird show. I usually quarantine unless I get an opportunity to test a bird way in advance. The owner may have been ill, but she was dilligent about health and vets, and she and my breeder friend had known eachother for years. The vet check was also done before she was put into the house (she is not out in the aviary with the big flock, she's inside with a few of my pet 'toos).

PBFD, Pachecos, chlamydiosis, polyoma..... all negative
Vet check showed clean findings despite weight loss.

Only other concern now will be giardia, and I started that treatment at the show. We treat our entire aviary for giardia yearly.

What beautiful birds! I'm glad you did this for them. Please keep us updated!

I wish I could help all the babies that need rescuing. :-(

It is just me having bad experiance from bird show regarding diseases moving around

Yeah we try to be as careful as possible...

You have to put on a clean cloth and use hand sanitizer before touching our birds, all ours are polyoma vaccinated, we are very picky about which shows we attend, and the babies that go to the shows are not kept with any of our breeder birds, thus far (after 30 years) no problems yet. We don't allow any other birds anywhere near our booth, etc... Also don't attend nearly as many shows as she used to.

Your a sucker like me...lol.....we just adopted a special need bird, a Lutino cockatiel that's missing a toe, no crown feathers with missing face feathers. They said he wasn't tamed and was a she, I sexed him once I got home and its a boy. And he hop right on my finger and was super friendly. My partner told me I made the right decision bringing him home cause he needed love and care. So now we have a new addition to the family....

I think you are amazing and that Phoebe is one lucky girl!

Phoebe has been making slow steady progress. Up until 2 days ago I hadn't done anything but let her enjoy life and watch me play withthe other 'toos. As I fed her and cleaned her cage the other day she seemed different, so I reached out toward her. I had no intention to touch her, I just wanted to get my hand slightly closer and be sure to pull away BEFORE she got afraid. A slow game for 2 days. Today she let me touch her back. I pulled away before I scared her, and praised her and gave her an almond in her bowl and let her be. It may not sound like much, but for a wild caught umbrella it's a huge deal... :D

That's wonderful news!!!! Tonight Scooter took flight in the living room and when I held my finger up, she flew right back at me landing on my finger. I mis-sexed Scooter, it's a girl. I had to re-look under her wings. I examined her carefully around her head, my partner been telling me this since day one, my partner thinks she was being mis-treated and was probably attacked by a another bird or those people's kids. On her head, there was a scab that's growing out new feathers underneath it. It broke my heart when I saw that, that confirms she was being mis-treated....She's a very very sweet bird and we're happy to have her here!!!

It's really heartwarming to hear stories like this.

Thank you for what you do!!

How do you preen a bird? Is it something she can't do herself? You're doing an awesome job shredded oaks!

It's always amazing when someone steps up! I can't say I could have walked past that booth without dragging hubby by the elbow and wiggling the wallet out of his pocket. With that said, he's got a thick skull and a HUGE heart. He'd say "No, no, no" all the way over... see the birds... and ask "How many can we take honey?"

Parrot lovers are true fanatics, kudos from a kindred spirit!

glad this thread was bumped up because I had never seen it. What a heartwarming story. How is Phoebe today? What a feathered angel of mercy you have to be to these babies. It is heartbreaking that she got to be that old without finding out the good about humans. Sometimes I am truly sickened by my fellow man, especially in cases of animal or child cruelty.
