I had planned to breed a few birds, when I retire, and already have a couple of breeding pairs of green cheek conures...

The first pair laid 5 eggs, but only 2 hatched... Then they stopped feeding the chicks, and I only saved one of those... That's Squirt...

Yesterday I pulled 3 chicks from my second pair - they did have 4, but one disappeared...

Having fed these 3 around the clock for 24 hours, I'm already getting attached to them! There is no way I can sell my little babies...

How do you breeders do it?

When I bred dogs I used to have a little teary moment after they left to their new home EVERY SINGLE TIME. I was very strict on the homes they went to and went above expectation in raising, training and extras every single time. I put so much love into it, I never had a need to worry about finding homes... even word of mouth kept me busy :)

Its never easy to let them go, but having such a heart will not only give your babies the best chance in life but will make some new owners so incredibly happy that although it will be hard watching them go... you will be filled with joy that they have brightened up someone elses life. I always gave free boarding :D And I receive a flood of emails every christmas with updates and cute pictures and video.

Its hard, but rewarding! Your attachment makes you one of the best breeders!

Thank you so much, but I still don't think I can sell off my babies.. :(

I might have to find a different hobby for retirement, but I really thought this was one thing I wanted to do... :(

I hope I get some more answers from breeders..

How do you let go of the chicks you've hand raised?
