I bought vegetables today to make chop.
I went a little over board.
The vegetables
1. boc chop
2. Broccoli
3. Kale
4. Red bell pepper
5. Green bell pepper
6. Romaine lettuce
7. Brussel sprouts
8. Spinach
9. Green leafy lettuce
Now that's what I ordered.
But you have to times that by 2.
The funny thing is as am cutting, and chopping. Am talking to my flock. And when one would yell loud, I would say yes Chef.
When I finally finished, I put it all in containers so I could freeze it.
Picture of the two huge bowl I had to mix together. Both bowls has all nine in it. That what I used the pot for.
Now I have to do it all over again tomorrow.

I use the bird tricks chop recipe. They have four different ones for seasons I assemble the chop and then I put about a cup in each freezer Ziploc bag. It lasted me roughly 3 months almost 3 1/2 months. They also sell a freeze dried chop that you add water to as well. Some people don’t really like making chop. It takes me about 4 to 5 hours from the beginning to the end to make the entire recipe and to bag it. It’s quite the process.

I admire you for your efforts and energy!
Me, too! I use frozen veggies and cook them for my stinkers. Yvons loves his carrots!

Here is a tip for making chop from veggies - drain the chopped up veggies really well before bagging or putting in containers. Excess water will make the chop a soggy unappetizing blob when thawed. When you chop up veggies, especially peppers , they release a lot of water. I usually line the bowl with a whole lot of paper towels to absorb all the water and they come out soaking wet.

Aslo, dont feel bad, my usual chop recipe has 15 ingredients.

Also what is your plan to defrost? Defrosting the whole container, unless your birds eat the contents in a day or two, the balance will start to go bad.

I bag chop in small freezer baggies, with 3 days worth in each. TO defrost, I will beat the baggie up with a chicken hammer to loosen it up and only take out the days worth, the remaining contents stay frozen. Last batch I made was like 39 baggies worth.

First I do use paper towels. I give the veggies a good rinse. Then I use towels to dry. And then as I chop a veggie I grab the chopped veggie and squeeze with a towel to get it as dry as possible. When it comes to bell peppers I put towels in a bowl and just let them drain out really good.
As far as freezing I use glass containers that hold about 3 days worth of chop for all 4 of my flock.

I have another suggestion that will save you so so much time. Food processor. When I started using one, chop went from a several hour affair to something I could knock out in no time. And I don't use that many veggies. I should. I'm feeling like a bad bird mom right now 😅

Funny thing is I use a food processor. I just make so much up, all the different veggies.

Do you share your recipe? Bumble could probably use some variety.
