Plans are not going so well.
In fact I would say we are in damage control right now.

I drove up to my Fathers place on Thanksgiving Day.
I caught this bird of prey crossing my path very closely.
This is a still snapshot from the dashcam so it looks farther away than it was.

This was around Stockton Ca.

It's beautiful up here any time of year.
I thought I might find a lack of sunshine depressing but I don't.
Not with views like this.

But the project to convert the large shop/garage into a living space has stalled and may have done more harm than good up here.
The contractors have removed 2 of the 3 roll up doors and framed in a outer wall with to windows.
And that's where they left it.
The issue is really all over the septic system.
We had been told the construction could go through with worrying about it.
Now the plumber that was hired by the contractor to put in the kitchen/bath won't do the job without a $20,000 dollar upgrade to the septic system.
And we have a shop/garage that is no longer weathertight and we are into the rainy season .
Going to try to arage a meeting with the contractor while I am up here and at least get him to finish the wall.
I know enough that I could come close to finishing the wall.
I can hang insulation and putting up drywall cant be to difficult it's just the outside I got no clue on.

I feel for you, bro. I had my own contractor nightmare many years ago, when we had to fully tear out and re-construct my Dads first floor, due to a severe fire, took it out right to the bricks. He hired a friend (never a good idea) as the contractor, and that guy hired his friends (also a bad idea). We almost had to go to court to get the job done.

I;d get a second quote on the plumbing, and take a whack at doing the carpentry myself, if you feel up to it. These days its not hard to get good advice and instructions on line for just about anything. Wish you lots of luck and good results! Those views are worth it!

Indeed, beautiful views! They could be a magazine photo or a puzzle or…

Alas, Willow is not legal in California.

I would love to try out living in that climate.

This is southern Oregon.
It's a long story but was trying to set up a base camp so to speak in order to help care for my Father who is suffering from dementia.
If I am going to spend a significant amount of time up here, I need to bring Bingo and Bella with us (wife and myself).
Having them in the house proper is not really an option.

cooking with Teflon and an inability to tolerate noise of any kind.

My adult Son is staying with the rest of the flock.
But Bingo is bonded to me and Bella to my wife and I don't want to disrupt that bond and possibly lose ground with Bellas's feather plucking.

I don't know if quaker parrots are illegal in this state.

The view of the clouds in amongst the mountains remind me of the cinematography in "Last of the Mohicans"

QPs are legal in Oregon and Washington state but that would be a big move for me. And I wonder if the rain would make my terrible arthritis hurt more. There’s no way to know but to try it, so probably not happening.☹️

I am sorry for your family troubles.
