I wanted to post this as I did make a mistake, and it could have ended much worse. I just bought my sun conure a new cage. It’s large, and runs pretty much to the floor. It’s in our living room. I’ve had my German shepherd for 13 years, and he’s not bothered any of my parrots. They feed him, and he’s always checking on food that may have been dropped. Today I took my German shepherd on a walk, and it looked like there was dripping blood from his nose. When he coughed it spritzed. It wasn’t draining but dripping consistently. When I got home from my walk I looked at it more closely. It looked like there was a gash on his nostril, but nothing that I could see that would indicate dripping blood. My German shepherd is a senior dog, and has some health issues. He just had pneumonia last month. So I made a vet appointment. What I found out.. My sun conure is going to the bottom of his new cage, and biting my German shepherd right in the nostril and leaving gashes that are deeper. My German shepherd is cleaning the cage bars where there is food particles. Conure cages at least mine are fairly flimsy. If my German shepherd wanted to do damage he certainly could. This could have ended so much worse. I just wanted to share this, as I don’t want others to make this mistake, and have it end worse.

Thank you for posting this, @kme3388. I'm so sorry this has happened, but you may very well have saved someone else from experiencing something far worse. I hope everyone is ok up there! šŸ™ šŸ™ šŸ™

@kme3388 - Oh my! I have a similar problem with my Green cheek, Quasar, and my dog, Winter. Winter surfs the plastic tray, and Quasar's taken to nipping the poor dog every time she's grazing. She's growled, too, at the conure, but as she's a 13 pound italian greyhound, I don't worry about her getting into the cage.

Green Cheeks really do have no fear...
