I wanted to post this as I did make a mistake, and it could have ended much worse. I just bought my sun conure a new cage. Itās large, and runs pretty much to the floor. Itās in our living room. Iāve had my German shepherd for 13 years, and heās not bothered any of my parrots. They feed him, and heās always checking on food that may have been dropped. Today I took my German shepherd on a walk, and it looked like there was dripping blood from his nose. When he coughed it spritzed. It wasnāt draining but dripping consistently. When I got home from my walk I looked at it more closely. It looked like there was a gash on his nostril, but nothing that I could see that would indicate dripping blood. My German shepherd is a senior dog, and has some health issues. He just had pneumonia last month. So I made a vet appointment. What I found out.. My sun conure is going to the bottom of his new cage, and biting my German shepherd right in the nostril and leaving gashes that are deeper. My German shepherd is cleaning the cage bars where there is food particles. Conure cages at least mine are fairly flimsy. If my German shepherd wanted to do damage he certainly could. This could have ended so much worse. I just wanted to share this, as I donāt want others to make this mistake, and have it end worse.
