I got my new sun conure 2 days ago he is only 12 weeks old and head bobs and flaps his wings when he is in a little box with a blanket I put in his cage to sleep in today he's been a little puffy an he has a bad balance when I try to hold him on my finger and he's shy. I also need help with my other conure he is a green cheek and he always flys to my sun conures cage and I don't want him to because he slowly makes his way to my sun and then they fight but I like to leave them out of there cages please help and thank you!

I would suggest taking the sun conure to the vet, the best advice for when in doubt with any bird. The head bob can be because he is hungry or want attention. Being puffy can mean different things. My GCC gets puffy when he is relaxing but I have heard that if it is consistent then he could be sick. It's always smart to take a new bird to a wellness check up when you first get them. Have them run some blood work to make sure he is healthy and that if he is not then you can have the breeder reimburse you. Hope this helps.

He always acts like he wants me to pick him up but when I put my finger up to him he backs away but he will climb onto my shoulder

He head bobs when I'm holding him he acts like my finger is feeding him I've always been playing with him besides when I'm sleeping

He also may not be fully weened, I really would take him to the vet

When they are fully weaned does that just mean they eat solid foods? And about how much will the vet cost because I never brought a bird to the vet

Enza, it sounds like your baby is hungry all the time.

Please have him checked out by an AVIAN vet. I can't guesstimate how much the visit will cost you. If you only do throat and fecal cultures, it will be less than if you run blood tests.

At 12 weeks your Sun Conure should have plenty balance, hence the recommendation to get him seen ASAP.

Yes it means they are on solid food, when I brought my baby home we gave him the baby food out of a spoon for three days and then he didn't want it anymore and started to eat his seed and pellets you can also try giving him some apple. I just peal it and cut the core out that is his favorite treat. I'm not sure how much a Vet cost in your area. But it was about 60 bucks do a Vet visit and them blood work is more than that. I would call around and find an Avian Vet in your area a regular Vet will not be good for birds.

With a new bird, a vet visit is always in order, even if the bird seems normal. So, you would be giving yourself a two for one basically. You would get the baseline visit and have an experienced person really assess the situation with your baby bird. At 12 weeks, i agree, the bird should be pretty sturdy already.

I went to a pet store that hand feeds baby birds of all kinds and they said he looked normal and his head bobbing is okay because he just got done weaning he does eat solid foods also that he is off balance because he has long nails, tomorrow I'm gonna go get his nails cut and wings cut better and see if he will be okay then if not ill bring him to the vet. Maybe I was just a little too worried
