Lol, it is important that you only do this with birds that trust you and are used to being handle like that; you don't want to scare them. In the mean time perhaps you could use a perch that is a different color from the rest, which you only use to move your bird from where he shouldn't be.

There is a difference true, but my tiels don't mind being held on their backs, having wings extended, etc. of course the two species are different, but my point is that my birds are handled and socialized in such s way that me picking them up by their bodies is not some sort of punishment for them.

I'm working on Coconut letting me lift and open his wings... I don't want him to end up like Rascal. I regret not man handling Rascal a lot more when he was much younger. How do you do it? I mean with tiels... do you just regularly lift up and open one wing at a time while the tiel perches on your finger? I usually do it when Coconut is preening then he allows me to lift the wing and slightly open it.

I have not tried that with BB yet,however,with Amy,all I Do is have her perch on my fingers/hand and grab the very end of her arm,and extend it..she understands what I want,and will eventually open both arms wide,and doesn't mind at all.

That's why I use a tablet, with the keyboard on the screen. The one time I let Salty on my keyboard at work, he ripped a key off in 30 seconds. They must make the keys with peanut oil or somehing, every parrot wants to start cracking them open. Oh and forget about voice input, when I do that, it's exactly when Salty figures it time for singing and talking lessons, and yes the tablet has no problem trying to type his ranting. Imagine trying to write an email ' dear Mr so&so, the mercury level of your Hello, Hello, Hello, good boy good boy good boy is affecting the yield on your ... oh crap Salty !!!

LMAO! After meeting the little guy yesterday Al, I can definitely see him doing that!!

Coconut has this thing where he would love to chew on the side of my utrabook's screen... yikes!! When he clamps down on it he refuses to let go... I no longer let him anywhere near my expensive new ultrabook!

This might be a good time to "recreate" what the bird likes as a play stand.

When my macaw liked hiding under my desk, I built him his own cave to hide out in. When he started grabbing the blanket off another bird's cage I included a towel in his cave (supervised of course). When I find something he likes, I add it to his environment as an added incentive to him staying put.

So for a computer desk play stand find a recycling center and find some good tech stuff to repurpose. Keyboards can have the wires cut off and be run through the dishwasher. After that let the bird have them. Same with old computer mice. Put some ink pens (ink removed) and other safe to chew office gadgets. Sounds like a fun project. Play will need to be supervised of course and the various toys will need to be re-inspected after play time to make sure the birds haven't exposed something that can hurt them.

I like to think of birds more like room mates. If they like my area more than their area then I add stuff to their area.
