It's been over a week since my breeder said my baby should've hatched! I'm really worried now. I haven't gotten an email from her!

I called last Monday and she told he hadnt hatched yet. Now it's going to be another week with no news

Maybe she just miscalculated the incubation period?? Idk but I'm super nervous about him now lol I know I shouldn't be stressing so much over an egg but I am! Haha

Is there more than one egg? Did you put a deposit down?

Same thing happened to me and it turned out that the eggs weren’t fertilized. Luckily my breeder bought a baby from the nest from another breeder to raise for me. Good luck!

No there's only one egg right now. There were 5 but she checked them and four were infertile and only one had something inside! And yes I've given them double the deposit they asked for lol but they only have one BCC pair right now. She told me is was about time but I'm just paranoid lol

Ohhh, so hard to wait for news like this! Maybe little Cupid wants to hatch closer to Valentines day. We sent all the good egg vibes, I just knew we'd have a chick by now. Still sending good vibes and hoping for the best.

I gave her a call and I think she may be getting a tad impatient with me lol! I've given her a call every Monday since she informed me that there was one last egg to hatch.(3 Mondays to be exact) tomorrow will be the fourth which I do plan on calling again.

When I called last week all the told me was there wasn't any news and she would call me when there was and that was it. lol which I'm starting to think they baby never hatched and she's afraid to tell me?? Or maybe she's planning on giving him to someone else? Idk but three weeks after she said a few days is kind of a rediculous amount of time but then again I'm not a breeder but what are your opinions?? Should I stop calling once a week and just wait?? Or am I doing the right thing? Lol

Is she artificially incubating the egg, or are the parent birds?

If she's doing it, 1 out of 5 eggs to be fertile is pretty abysmal, unless the parents are new.
It all sounds wrong, I'd ask for my deposit back unless she can send you photos of the egg being candled.

An egg hatching one day after it's due to hatch is usually bad news, but a week or more is just silly, unless she doesn't know the exact date when the egg was laid. Even then, a good breeder should know roughly how old the egg is by candling it.

I think you should most definitely find a different breeder!

I'm sorry to say, I also think it's time to look elsewhere for your future companion. Don't be too discouraged, like Mekaisto mentioned, something just sounds off about the whole thing. I would look for a more trustworthy breeder. Good luck! Keep us posted, please.

I would definitely find out what's going on!! If the egg didn't hatch yet then obviously something is not right. She has YOUR money and YOU have the right to know what is going on and what the plan is! She owes you either a valid explanation or your deposit back!!

I can't believe she is acting annoyed at your calling only once a week, AND SHE HAS YOUR MONEY??!!

Too bad you already gave a deposit. She just needs to give it back. Then go find a decent breeder who 1) knows what's going on! 2) gives decent customer service.

Dang! This sounds so frustrating! :( Something seems off! Why would she get annoyed with you! And the egg is a week off??? That's a bit much! I have never bred parrots but I have chickens. And if it was a week after planed, it was dead for sure. :( I'm really sorry. :(

Alright guys. I called one last time in hopes it was going to turn around. She did apologize for being unprofessional but then when I just spoke with her she told me that we've been checking on them too much. once a week apparently stressed them enough to crack the eggs. which I thought was ridiculous given your supposed to be checking on them regularly anyway right?? but anyways. i'm trying to find a new breeder now)):

she was so good with my sunny. idk what happened now. I was so excited and now im back at square one! I don't have a rescue in my town either..

any suggestions would be greatly appreciated

I don't know if you're looking for a breeder locally or if a breeder in Oklahoma would be OK, but I'm pretty sure you'd not run into the same frustrations, but you could contact Marcy Feathered Aviary at birdcompanions@onlineok.com.....she's a past President of the pyrrhura breeders association...if she doesn't have any chicks available, there's a good chance she could point you in the right direction...tell her I sent you...I think she was a member around here at one time.....

Good luck.....

Thank you so much! i'll definetly look into it asap. I wanted "local" (my breeder was 4 hours away) so the baby was on the road for the least amount of time as possible, but if i need to go further for a healthier happier baby i'm willing to do so. Do i address you as "weco" or something else?

At least now you know. Did she give you your deposit back?

I got my Sunny from T & D Aviary in San Antonio. Their birds are sweet, friendly and healthy. I would recommend them 100%.

I don't know if they ship, though.
You can look up their website.

Good luck!

Yes Kalidasa exactly. I recommended her to everyone when i picked up my little sun conure.
Not anymore.. I'm just in shock on how i was treated? i mean who does that to their new parronts..

Faeryphoebe1 thank you! i'm set on a blue crown, I'll definitely check out the website.
I could actually make a trip to san antonio! its double the driving time but thats ok all in a days trip. maybe a weekend lol the only thing with long travel times that worries me is feeding!! If i can i want to get a 6-7 week old baby so i can finish the feeding. not for bonding purposes like one might think but because its just amazing and so much reward in raising him yourself((:

what would you suggest with feeding on the road home?
