So I had this thought..

1) Get an ink pad or stamp pad....

2) wear an old shirt I don't care about and prep the area...

3) pick up clark and place him on pad (he doesn't mind the back cradle foot dangle pickup)

4) sign xmas cards with his feet (and my signature)

5) ???

6) Profit.

The question I have is....I typed stuff like this in to google...maybe I didn't look around long enough; but there was no helpful information. Is it safe for clark?

Is ink and parrots a safe combination? (I mean in a controlled environment like this where I'm just stamping his feet.) I swear I have no idea...Has anyone else done this?

I think it would be cute, but I do not want to do anything that might make him sick or something, the action itself he'd have no problem with. We play like that all the time.

:gcc:

I would suggest mashed blackberry juice lol. I haven't done it, but it certainly stains and it is bird-safe. When my U2 eats them, she stamps marks up my arm.

I have heard vegetable dyes are usually safe, but I would be be wary..Definitely wouldn't use stamp pad ink.

Why not child safe finger paints?

This is an interesting thought. Just remember that many things safe for people aren't safe for birds (e.g., chocolate, avocado, rhubarb etc). Just because it's safe for a kid doesn't mean it is safe for a bird to ingest.

I will try to find a thread that I started on this a very long time ago. There were some great suggestions and attempts. I wound up making a cute little memento which could have been reproduced on cards and such.
Ooooh, I hope I can find it!

Great idea, and wonderful recollection, Gail!

I'd love a shirt with enlarged parrot feet! No doubt the process to personalize an imprint and up-size is fairly easy.

Good idea, but I would NEVER use a regular ink pad or stamp pad with regular ink...Vegetable/Plant based dyes are fine, but you have to remember that whatever you put on a bird's feet he is going to put into his mouth. So if it's at all toxic then he's going to be ingesting it. Only plant-based or all-natural dyes made from bird-safe plants/fruits etc. should be used.

Bottom-line is "Don't put anything on your bird's feet or body that isn't 100% being inside of their mouth and for them to ingest, because inevitably that's where it's going to end-up".

Sounds good, I can do blackberries. I was watching thread for a while I just wanted everyone to have a chance to chime in.

So Good idea, use a different medium, and I agree...

Thanks everyone!

Boiled (and shredded) beetroot? Gives nice dark stains and is not exactly a liquid.
(you could use the liquid as well, but the pulp will be more splatter-free)

I am making paw print ornaments this year including the birds and my dog, cat. I am using children's finger paint and will just wipe it off after we do it.

5) ???

6) Profit.

LOL!!! I'm constantly making this same reference to the Underpant's Gnomes, but nobody ever gets it... except my husband. :) Thanks for the smiles!

Also, there is food coloring. Regarding the 'ink' pad, the craft shops carry ones that are just the pad and it is left for the customer to add their own color.

Clearly not a crazy idea!

Ok so I used mashed up blackberries, clark didn't like the cold but I forgot about that till it was to late, anyways this is what I got.

I think it's alright.... I have it sitting over near the fireplace right now so it will dry out. :gcc:
