Double Yellow Headed Amazons and a pair of Eclectus
Hi

My Name is David From Dublin, Ireland.

I am a novice owner of two young pair of Double Yellow Headed Amazons and a pair of 6 and 7 year old Eclectus. Just completed a pair of Amazons but the male came along with a history of plucking and eating down to the skin of his shoulders and below his crop. He is with us now just over two weeks and the second week has gone better than the first as his shoulder feathers are growing back at present, while I keep my fingers crossed. Past owners said it was a seasonal issues at this time of year, but not convinced and looking for advice. All birds are currently in an outdoor aviary enjoying rainy Ireland.

Thanks David

Welcome to the forum. Glad to have you.

Hello David and welcome! I'm happy your new Amazon is doing better, hopefully that will continue:) I'd love to see pictures of your flock!

Welcome! Nice name Topgear

Welcome David,
Welcome to the forum. I also just joined. You may find that being outside fixes the problem. I recently read a theory that the plucking is caused by the bird's effort to maximize skin exposure to sun. I would be curious about how he was previously housed. Perhaps a little cod liver oil (do they still make that vile stuff?) on his food might also be helpful, along with fresh fruits and veggies.

Welcome. I'm glad you found us.
There's a big and passionate Amazon fellowship here!

Welcome and be welcomed. Get ye to the Amazon sub-forum and read the 2 sticky posts at the very top. Priceless information for an Amazon owner, any parrot owner really, but focused on Amazons. My Salty is a yellow shoulder Amazon, much smaller then your Double Yellow heads, which I love BTW. We love pics here, so post away!
