Introducing Yuri! Ona’s New Sister!

She’s still acting great. I am unsure if her meds are doing anything for her foot. It seems about the same :(
Fingers crossed it will start to help. So happy she’s still acting like herself. 😊🫶

Having a strange foot isn't a big problem for a bird. Joey has two deformed feet and it hasn't handicapped her at all.

Yuri has an appointment for Sept 2 to have the particles removed from her stomach with psyllium therapy. She will have to stay at the vet a couple days for it and it’s expensive. We do not know what the particles are but would rather try and have her pass them so they don’t cause her problems later. It’s unknown if they’re related to her foot through some kind of toxicity. We only know it’s not lead or zinc toxic.

She’s still doing very well and has started spending more time in her new large cage! I tried to set it up with care for her mobility. She’s talkative as ever and a big momma’s girl. She and Ona are getting along very well.

Still trying to get her to eat veggies. She LOVES shredded carrots and eats tons of them but so far that’s about it. She learned how to eat an apple from watching Ona the other day. I then tried the same thing with spinach and she wouldn’t follow Ona’s lead.

Poor Yuri, she really has had a rough start to life, hasn't she? Thank goodness she's got you, @onamom!!

I'd love to see pictures of Yuri's cage setup.

As requested! Lots of rope perches and perches close together. Food and water bowls next to each other. A big sea grass mat for a platform.

Bar spacing is a little larger than I’d like but finding a stainless steel cage for a small or medium bird is HARD. And very expensive. Wish this one was a little bit wider, but was the best I could find for reasonable bar spacing and under 2k.

Had to be choosy because she can open cage doors and she chews at the bars trying to get them open. So she needed stainless.

Now that's a palace! I can see that keeping her seagrass platform clean of poop will be difficult. My female budgies destroy those pretty quickly. Look what they did to a toy in three days.

What are the dimensions? It looks like 32x24x very tall.

It’s actually quite a bit smaller than Ona’s cage.

They love the playstand on top.

I have a similar grass mat on their PVC playstand and haven’t had too many issues. Most of the poo goes through the little holes or I can wipe off easily. Yuri does chew more than Ona so we will see how she does with it.

I think it depends on where her favorite perch is for just relaxing. If it's directly over the grass mat it will get poop bombed a lot but if that's the case you can just move it a little.
Since you take then out a lot a smaller cage isn't bad. Stainless steel cages any bigger than that are really expensive with wide bar spacing. I have yet to find the perfect cage.

Yes it’s very frustrating to me there aren’t more stainless options out there. Especially since it’s the most safe option for our birds.

I'm envious of you and anyone being able to use rope perches! I love using them. Nameliss ❤️ seeing how fast she can pick the strands apart. That's a beautiful setup.
