So.. I've been waiting for almost 2 weeks now to get my cockatoo. Last time I go in there they told me they were going to keep him for another week, fine okay, even though they told me on the phone before I got there that I could take him.. I called yesterday and set up a time to go in and pick him up and be taught how to hand feed him.. I walk back and he's not there.. OK.. so where is my bird?! The one guy say im not sure let me go find out, WHAT!? They let some lady take him all day out to the hospitals and retirement homes.. are you kidding me?! This is my bird, I've paid for him! I swear it feels like they do not want me to have this bird. Its really getting to the point I am about done fighting to get him and I know that sad to say, but i don't know what to do at this point. I can't even get my bird i've paid for.

I take it that this is a pet store. If you have a receipt or purchase of this bird I would ask for my money back. The treatment you are getting is just not right. Are you all set up for this new bird being in quarantine? The way you do this is very important for your resident birds. Boy 2 cockatoos is going to be a handful. http://www.parrotchronicles.com/features/quarantine/quarantine.htm

I would go back there today and demand that they relinquish your bird or your money. Preferably the bird. How old is it? Handfeeding is not that hard. Do you know how many feedings hes on a day? Hes just a baby and they are taking him out in public? Are they crazy? I would be absolutely livid about this. Don't call them, just show up to get your bird. I sure hope you have him soon!

The lady that is showing me how to hand feed is a b*tch. She isn't nice at all and talks to me like im stupid. He's 6 months old. They were suppose to show me last week how to hand feed, but that didn't happen. I'm not real sure how many times a day they're hand feeding him. They told me if they would send him home with me too soon he would stop eatting his actual food and resort back to wanting to be hand fed all the time.

Get the number for the shops owner. Not just the manager but the owner. He should get it sorted quick smart he won't wanna loose all that money
and I think you demand some discounted food etc also for all the mucking around they have done

You bird is six months old and still being and fed?

FIANLLY! I have him home now. =) I have only one cockatoo. I'm thinking about later on down the road adopting another parrot. I've spent last few hours cuddling with him/her on my bed. They also showed me how to hang feed. Which is real simple. She/He is eating twice a day and should be going down to just once. SOOOO HAPPY!!!

Again I inform you unless you quarantine this bird your are putting all other birds at risk. please read my link about quarantine.

Congratulations on your new bird and the fact that you have had a good cuddle. I would advise an avian vet appointment asap though, esp. given the bird being hand fed at 6 months and its recent exposure to folks in hospitals, schools etc. The pet store should not have done that with your bird and you should get a clean bill of health from vet or address problems with folks you got your too from

I don't have any other birds. He's my only bird. :white1:

Glad you finally got your baby home
I'm shocked he is still on 2x hand feeds a day
the lady raising him obviously don't know much about raising of a bird
and as for taking a bird out and about in public without a vet check let Alone after youve purchased him it's more than wrong
I'd still be contacting the shop owner if I were you and inform them of the goings on surrounding his purchase etc
