Is kusu not a male? Or is she a female?!?

I always thought he was a male its a new adopted budgie very relaxed ands comes to chill on my shoulder every day however he dont like ANYONE i tried to mix him with multiply female budgies but that never worked out he just gets irritated and goes into his own corner but the qeustion i need to know because his cere is making me think its a female am i right?? Oh yeah that there is a lady(first pic obvious, 3rd pic pretty clear, 2nd pic hard to see). As for age, hard to tell. Pieds often do not gain the iris ring of most other budgie colors, and the barring does not go down the forehead. Based on her appearing in breeding condition, maybe a firm adult... buuuuut I had one precocious hen who would "take care of" herself at only a few months old, and then gain the brown crusty cere of a breeding hen at WELL under a year old.

I think Kusu is a female but she’s recessive pied like my young bird. This mutation is notoriously difficult to determine sex. Mature males usually have “fleshy” pink Ceres while females eventually go brown while in mating condition. Hers looks a bit tan colored to me, not fleshy pink.
Does she have visible iris? Just curious. I may be wrong, but I don’t think that factor is quite relevant with this mutation.

Budgies are often territorial and it’s not uncommon for them to not get along well. Introduce them slowly on neutral territory without things to fight over (food, for example).

Thank you so much guys !!! I never tried mixing her with a male as company since i didnt knew it was a female that could be the reason why 'she' didnt like the other females i understand now haha

Fyi: 2 males are much more likely to get along than 2 females. The gals are really the territorial ones in my experience.


No. A male with a crusty cere is either a misidentified female, or he probably has mites. Yours though is a lady bird.
